What to wear with these boots

Hi

am going out with DH on Friday night, have just bought these fab new boots.

here on ebay

Too tight to wear jeans tucked in them (can just about get them zipped over my calfs)

So what do you lovely ladies recommend ?

I'm 38, long dark hair, petite (although not round the bum !)

We're going for a meal, then onto a couple of bars where jeans wouldn't go amiss.

Need to be able to pick up at one of the main high street stores tomorrow night.

Leggings in them and a long top?

Flamesparrow · 04/02/2009 19:44

Oh, I should have added a disclaimer stating that I have no taste or style

elfsmum · 04/02/2009 19:44

seriously even with tights I couldn't get them zipped up.

Besides being a good size 14 (o.k. verging on a 16) I can't do leggings

thanks anyway

Straight legged dark indigo jeans worn over the boots, a fitted top and lots of wooden chunky bangles?

Flamesparrow · 04/02/2009 19:48

Yup, needs to be jeans over then, or a skirt

samsonara · 04/02/2009 19:52

What have you got that you are thinking of wearing ?any skirts or dresses?

elfsmum · 04/02/2009 19:54

I can do skirts, I can do dresses, sooooooo don't want to cover them up.

They go lovely with the radley bag i got half price in the John Lewis sale, even the cashier was "it's gone down to how much"

I'm being a stroppy teenager I know, but I lurrrve them

so what's trendy in the skirt/dress dept for an overweight, nearly 40 something, who is far too used to being in work clothes or jogging bottoms ?

OP posts:
LuLuMacGloo · 04/02/2009 19:56

Pencil skirt?

elfsmum · 04/02/2009 19:57

confession time ... didn't go out at all over Christmas, had no me time at all, didn't spend any money on nights out, clothes, nails, hair etc so found I had a little cash

saw the bag in the sale and bought it ... with nothing that it goes with

hence the purchase of the boots

haven't a clue what to put with it

all my skirts/dresses are work ones, and tend to be black

You can't wear them with no socks or tights surely??

I would go tea dress, tights n boots.

elfsmum · 04/02/2009 19:59

they're fine for socks, more room round the ankle, just my tree trunk calfs they struggle with

tea dress ? what type ?

OP posts:
elfsmum · 04/02/2009 20:01

this type www.grattan.co.uk/web/main/ProductDisplay.asp?An=0&N=0&Au=P_MasterItem&Nu=P_MasterItem&A=72X770_8&cm mmc=SEM--Froogle--Womens/Dresses/Day%20Dresses--72X770&catreqmedia=B9081&ordermedia=B7081&name=2 0PERCENT&orderoffercode=AETP&entry=1

do they stock them in the high street ? sorry to be so dim, I don't shop for clothes normally, it's George or Fred and then what'll do for work

OP posts:
elfsmum · 04/02/2009 20:02

try again

ah just worked out the links working

was trying to be clever and do a here

but forgot the space and here

OP posts:
janeite · 04/02/2009 20:04

Please don't wear them with a skirt or dress without tights, unless it is long enough to have absolutely no bare leggy gap between hem and boots!

samsonara · 04/02/2009 20:17

That is a nice dress but a tea dress and boots would look a bit like this
here which looks a bit too daytime casual imo. How do you feel about an above knee denim skirt with a top or a shirt dress in a bold colour like this
here

janeite · 04/02/2009 20:18

Ooh I rather like that link, except for the bare leggy bits! I like the brown leather belt with the dress.

Ewe · 04/02/2009 20:19

this type of thing but not this colour but what janeite said about tights!

jennylindinha · 04/02/2009 20:21

Ooh, how about this or else this? In fact most of Dotty P's dresses seem lovely. Or you could try New Look for example.

Definitely wear tights. And a trick to get the boots done up is to put a shoelace through the hole in the zip puller and use that to help pull it!

I'm - really want to wear dresses but it's too difficult with breastfeeding at the mo. And would love a night out with DP, on our own. Hmmm...

elfsmum · 04/02/2009 20:29

oh I love you ladies !!!!

I'm off to dotty p's absolutely love the first one Jenny, the colour would work great, and I have a lambswool bolero type thing I got from monsoon last year that would go with that.

I hear what you say about the tights, with my knees they have to be covered with something

OP posts:
jennylindinha · 04/02/2009 20:38

Good stuff. You'll always have room for tights and I find that they help with getting the boots on and off. I love the pink dress - and it is so not black! Hope you find it tomorrow. Enjoy yourself!

My DD is just 4 months and I have a DSD and a DNiece both of 10 so they will come in very handy in a few years, but I think I need to call in some favours from my sister very soon...
