Janey Lee Grace Natural Beauty Recommendations i.e. decholorination balls - any good?

Is anyone a fan? I got her Imperfectly Natural Woman from the library and wonder if anyone follows any of her tips? I tend to go as natural as possible in some areaa - Ecover washing up liquid and cleaners etc - but haven't really thought of natural toothpaste cleaners, using coconut oil as a moisturiser, natural shampoos or dechlorination balls. Her main point seems to be that there are so many potentially toxic chemicals in all of these products that the build up could cause all sorts of nasties. These seems to make sense to me but I'm not very scientific and imagine scientific friends of mine reading this and tutting that it is nonsense.

whatever else you do be very careful about toothpaste - don;t give up fluoride in your toothpaste - you will develop cavities!

I loved the book and bought the cleaning ball things for the washing manchine, used them religiously for about 3 months until my DH came home from work one day with some Persil tablets. Most unusual. He said he was sat in a meeting at work and thought someone smelt a bit and then realised with horror that it was him! We are now back on 'proper' washing poweder though my ecoballs are still sat under the sink waiting for another chance to show what they can do. Same with her tip about using bicarb and lemon juice instead of jif for kitchens and bathrooms - I tried I really did but we just weren't that clean!
The coconut oil as body moisturiser and hair conditioner is pretty good though.

I changed hair colouring = now use Daniel Fields totally natural colouring. It is amazing and really reasonable at £5 per go!

KarlWrenbury · 03/02/2009 18:54

i loathe that woman and her stupidly named kids

extremelychocolateymilkroll · 04/02/2009 10:24

Thanks for your replies. I too found out about Daniel Field from the Janey Lee Grace book. philopastry - it's interesting what you've experienced. Can I ask where you got the coconut oil?

Karl, I have met her once or twice in RL (long time ago). She actually seemed ok - though agree about the kids names. However, I know at least one of her boys shares a name with an oldie Mnetter so must be careful what I say!

philopastry · 04/02/2009 19:35

I bought my coconut oil from Neal Yard but H & B sounds like a wiser buy.
What on earth are her poor kids called?!

Flamesparrow · 04/02/2009 19:39

I'm with Karl on this, plus she pissed off my mate so am female solidarity loathing too

brimfull · 04/02/2009 19:39

I am intrigued to know her dc's names now?

brimfull · 04/02/2009 19:40

she's a bit too zealous for me

Flamesparrow · 04/02/2009 19:40

Sonny 9, Buddy 8, Rocky 4, and Lulu 2

(I don;t mind the names tbh)

brimfull · 04/02/2009 19:41

buddy and rocky are a bit

Flamesparrow · 04/02/2009 19:43

I know a little Rocky and he is gorgeous, so doesn't seem so I guess

extremelychocolateymilkroll · 04/02/2009 22:16

Thanks for all your replies - and for letting us know the names of her kids - I was also wondering what they were called.
