I am a make up virgin who is slowly easing my way in to the world of cosmetics in a bid to feel more 'together' + less frumpy.

Can anyone recommend a nice tinted moisturiser that doesn't scream LOOK AT MY FACE!MY BIG ORANGE FACE!I have good-ish skin with the occasional spot, so I don't want some nuclear cover-up, sheer is good.

any with SPF-ery would be good too.

I'm v. boring. I always recommend Laura Mercier. And it's not at all orange.

listenglisten · 02/02/2009 18:28

Boots No7 is very good too.

bobbi brown (spf 15) is lovely and huge range of tones- my fave, also like laura mercier (spf 20).

ladycornyofsilke · 02/02/2009 19:02

Also a Laura Mercier fan.

Laura Mercier, every time. It's expensive but lasts ages, and worth every penny. Particularly good if you have olive skin - mine is pale, but with a yellowy rather than pinky tinge - took me years to find anything that didn't make me look pink or orange.

I have used Mac and found it very good.
Why not go to House of fraser, or another department store, and get some advice on colours and try some out?

Hassled · 02/02/2009 19:08

Bobbi Brown. Smells a bit like TCP but is otherwise perfect in every way. And high SPF factor.

The Prescriptives Traceless one on www.qvcuk.com - if you hate it you can send it back used within 30 days - fantastic QVC.

chibi · 02/02/2009 19:12

thanks all - where can I find Laura Mercier? I have olive skin so this could be a winner for me.

Have used Clinique "Almost Makeup" and a No 7 one in the past. Am currently using Benefit YouRebel Lite. Good colour but I'm finding it a bit more "shiny" than Clinique. Jury's out at the moment..

Are you in London? Most department stores have a concession, including Liberty - there's one that doesn't but I can't remember which... Also department stores outside London, obviously . All their stuff is lovely, with natural colours, and it's very gentle on the skin, too. If you're looking for some general cosmetics advice they are great as their sales people are generally very experienced and un-pushy. (I don't work for them by the way!)

ladycornyofsilke · 02/02/2009 19:18

I buy Laura Mercier from Selfridges or Space NK.

I use bobbi brown - am also an olive skin. I use Light Tint for summer and Extra Light Tint for winter.

I am a light olive skin tone though (green in the winter and brown in the summer, although bizarrely my face does not change colour particularly throughout the year)
