what colour tops to wear with dark denim?

Just bought the dark jeans from the M&S thread last week & they are a fab fit. They are however quite a bit darker than my everyday jeans. Are there certain colours that just 'go' with the darker jeans? I've got a lot of grey in my wardrobe, but it doesn't seem to go. Are they more for brighter tops? white? black? feeling totally clueless...not for the first time!

I would think gery would be fine. If anything didn't go with dark denimI would say passtel colours but other than that I wouldn't worry.

Congratulations on your jeans!

I pretty much only wear very dark denim and I reckon they go with most colours. I can see grey might be a bit dull but I think it would be OK. White looks really crisp and nice. I think pastels are fine (my dark jeans look nice with a pale pink top) and bright colours like red and bright green look fantastic. Red and white probably best combination IMO.

Red, white, pink, bright colours. Not dark blue, black or grey. IMO.

God, I really am avoiding getting down to work this morning...

I wear bright colours and a black belt with my dark blue jeans. And it depends on hair colour too. Dark jeans, bright colours, dark hair. Pastels with blonde hair would look better I think.
I do not think grey is fine with anything. .

Colours are dipending on your skin tone hair colour and the colour of your eyes. All of us belong to a diminant colour group which could be warm, cool, deep, light, soft or crear. What colour is your hair, eyes and skin?

Thanks for all the suggestions. Yes, white tends to look best as I've worn that out before and it looked great! White around the house doesn't tend to be a winning combo with a toddler!

I have blonde hair, blue eyes, pale skin with a bit of pink to it.

Pinchypants those are exactly the colours I've been avoiding as I seem to look really dull if I've got dark things on from head to toe.

Sounds like you've got lovely colouring. I'd stick to bright colours or pastels depending on what you feel most comfortable in. In general though, I don't think you can go wrong with dark denim. It goes with everything IMO

Black with colourful silk scarf

Hello MommyUpNorth,
According to what you said you are light dominant and secondary characteristic is cool. Avoid warm shades &colours with a strong yellow undertone. Apple green, primrose(kind of pale yellow)will look stunning with grey or navy.
If you wear a gray, light gray top -as you said you have lots- you can mix it with icy violet or muted red.
Hope I could help a little bit. :-))

more dark denim for a bewitched look?

kettlechip · 28/01/2009 15:58

I have similar colouring (blonde slightly assisted though!) and wear most colours except black, which totally drains me. I do wear dark denim jeans with colours like navy or charcoal but only if I have a contrasting scarf or top underneath which is next to my skin iyswim. I find cooler shades suit me best, I can't wear dusky pinks at all.

I also wear pale pink, silver, red and I have a pale yellow Whistles jumper that I wear a lot with dark jeans but with a navy and white scarf to break it up. I agree with others that red and white looks great with dark denim. I love scarves, they are the answer to many a winter wardrobe dilemma imo.
