Alternative to Laura Mercier TM?

Hello ladies

I got my make-up bag nicked the other day. Highly vexing, as it contained all my best slap, lovingly built up over the years. The most expensive thing in there was some LM tinted moisturiser, which is the best I've found. Now I'm restocking my (new) bag, is there a more economic alternative? It needs to be pretty moisturising, and with enough cover to make me look like I'm five years younger.

Bumping for you. Does LM really make you look five years younger?

NotSoRampantRabbit · 26/01/2009 21:14

Love Laura Mercier TM but am economising atm. Currently using Aveda. It feels a bit thick and greasy when it goes on, but soon settles and gives good coverage for a moisturiser. Smells lovely and lavendery too.

flamingnora · 26/01/2009 21:15

LM is fab - I've not found anything to touch it. MAC foundation is pretty good & a wee bit cheaper (though still fairly pricey). Even the most rubbish of foundation will do though if it's a good match for your skin tone and you apply is with a damp cosmetic sponge rather than fingers, I reckon (though what do I know?!)

zanz1bar · 26/01/2009 21:18

I feel your pain, same happened to me and lost No.17 eye shadows 25years old that i loved, loved, loved.
I had the Aveda tinted moisturiser(weep) God it was good.
Now i live in nowheresville its what ever tesco/boots/or(gulp)QVC have.

I can recommend mineral makeup... its something new to play with and so far i am impressed. Try lilylolo online(dead cheap trial size that lasts for months) OR QVC bareminerals ( money back if you don't like)

On the plus side I took my loss as the chance to put aside all the sparkle and get some grown up make up for a 40+.

Still looking for the perfect lipstick, thin , blue lips don't look good in coral.

laura mercier and chanticaille are the best products I've ever found for foundation prep concealer
economise elsewhere a decent base is worth every penny

Miyazaki · 26/01/2009 21:23

Really there isn't. I would always splash the cash on base - I use LM in summer and am using chantecaille tm now, even if you have to buy cheap eyeshadow etc.

Puzzle, I have pretty good skin, but the only time I ever get compliments on it from all and sundry is when I am wearing the Laura Mercier tinted moisturiser.

Ronaldinhio · 26/01/2009 21:27

bourjois eyeshadows decent pigment v cheap last vv well

ladycornyofsilke · 26/01/2009 21:27

LM is the dogs bollocks.

tattycoram · 26/01/2009 21:28

I really like Bobbi Brown, but when I was last buying tinted moisturiser the woman said that she also really like the Laura Mercier one. It must be good if she mentioned it while trying to flog me BB. Anyway, the point is, if you can afford it I would definitely get it. I find things like that last for ages.

Miyazaki · 26/01/2009 21:30

Yes, have heard that Ronald, I should try. I got some good mineral eye shadows from the cheap as chips e.l.f site - might help with the economising?

tiredsville · 26/01/2009 22:20

I too love and use LM.
I use to use Vichy tinted moisteriser years ago which was very nice and good for dry skin, I'm not sure if it's still around.

SixSpot · 26/01/2009 22:28

I like Boots No 7 tinted moisturiser.

I went and bought the LM illuminating tinted moisturiser last time and I don't like it . Can't believe I wasted all that money...

tiredsville · 26/01/2009 22:41

Glad you mentioned that Sixspot, I was eyeing up the illuminating moisturiser but was a little unsure incase it was no good.

herbaceous · 27/01/2009 10:12

I tried the LM illuminating version, but it was a bit 'plastic' and fake looking.

I wish i'd read these replies before I caved in and bought some Benefit You Rebel. It's pretty good, but not as good as LM. I have learned my lesson. LM, and indeed Chantacaille, can't be beat.

LM is great. I've got a Bobbi Brown 'tinted balm'which is super moisturising and high SPF and good for summer. Prob no cheaper than LM though.
I use mineral make up in general.
