Is primer worth it?

I went with a friend for a Laura Mercier make over the other day. Now, I thought I had all the make up I could ever need (and more) but the make up artist almost had me convinced about face primer and eye shadow primer. Are they worth it? Has anyone tried the Boots No.7 ones (can't afford Laura Mercier at the mo and have got a £5 off voucher for No7).

thanks keepmum. what does it do for you? just make your make up last longer or does it make your skin look better?

I have primer which I use under foundation. I prefer to use Clarins beauty flash balm or 8 hour cream though.

I never really understood what clarins beauty flash balm was meant to do. is that a bit like a primer?

I don't really know what it's meant to do. I read somewhere that a make up artist used it under foundation so I tried it and it's fab, really glowy. I ran out so in desperation tried 8 hour cream which is really thick and gloopy. That has a similar effect under foundation and tinted moisturiser. I've got primer as well.

I have the Laura Mercier primer for day wear

and

use the MAC Prep & Prime for evening (which I prefer)

Laura Merciew goes under your moisturiser, pre & prime goes over moisturiser under foundation

the MAC prep & prime is fabulous.. honestly if you don't believe me.. do one half of your face first and see the difference (then do the other half obviously)

ooh, i'll look on ebay for the MAC one. sounds good. will it make me look flawlessly beautiful [hopeful emoticon]?

yes. it's fabulous.. heavier coverage the then laura mercier

it kind of looks a little metallicy when you put it on.. but really brightens and smooths your face.

(sorry am starting to sound like an advert)

RamblingRosa · 26/01/2009 14:18

metallic sounds scary!!

lol.. do you have anywhere near you that has a MAC consession?? they will put it on for you so you can try it

Tillyscoutsmum · 26/01/2009 14:20

I've got Smashbox photo finish primer - it does make foundation look less heavy and makes it last longer

RamblingRosa · 26/01/2009 14:24

i'm in london so could go into town and get a MAC lady to try some on me. might give it a go.
