It is my 32nd birthday today..I have got some birthday money to spend on clothes (about £150)and need advice on what would be best to update my "look".

I am basically stuck in a jeans and black top rut and need a few key (not too pricey) pieces that will make me look less like a frumpy old woman!

I am 5ft 9", a size 14-16 and not too fond on any particular area of my body.

Please help!

How about a personal shopper in a department store like Debenhams to help show you what suits you?

MrsMedders · 05/04/2005 11:27

Even without megabucks to spend??
That sounds really indulgent...I like the sound of a personal shopper!

Go to Topshop - that should inspire you and make you feel as young and lovely as you are!

Buy yourself a copy of Trinny and Susannah's book 'What NOT to wear' it will explain what wardrobe staples you need to flatter your figure. eg crisp white shirt, black well fitting trousers, etc

top shop do personal shopping too

desperatehousewife · 05/04/2005 14:32

I have a copy of What not to wear if you want to buy it!

What do you spend the most of your time doing? I always get nice black trousers and tops - but usually end up in the house, on the carpet with ds!
Sort out what your lifestyle is first and where the gaps are in your wardrobe.

went to primark today but couldn't buy anything as it was so busy but it looks ok for fashioy things to update what you already have so I will be going back for sure.Debenhams has some nice basic pieces Buy a magazine and go through it and choose some essentials and then add cheaper accessories
