Fuming about boys' clothes

I hate clothes shopping.

Yesterday, went into H&M and Zara to try to get plain or striped (absolutely no pictures allowed) tops for DS (9 but on the small side). Both shops had suitable stuff (unlike 'most everywhere else I've tried).

Until I look at the sizes: ages 7-8 (122-128 cm) yes, 9-10 (134-40cm) yes. 8-9 (128-134 cm) - NO. Asked behind counter in both shops. Answer - No, we don't stock that size- there's no room on the racks for all sizes so we don't do that one.

AARGH. So until DS grows another 6cm, he has to either wear tops that are too small around the body or way to long in the arm.

Today: trying to buy new swimming trunks - the bermuda-style ones. Shops: full of girls' suits of all varieties and colours. Boys: 'No, we don't get those in until the end of February - they are summer ranges.'

So girls are allowed to grow out of swimsuits in the winter (and go swimming) but boys have to either not swim or not grow.

I wish we could all wear leaves and be done with it...

how frustrating

There was a thread recently about colourful clothes for boys and lots of links were given to brilliant websites, some quite reasonably priced.
And have you tried Matalan? No good if you're a Boden mummy, but my DS sometimes finds stuff he likes there. And I bought his last swimming trunks there.

Sorry.

subtlemouse · 24/01/2009 13:38

I'll give Matalan a go next time I'm passing then!

Do they think boys skip from 7 to 9 without passing through the intermediate centimetres, though???

I thought this happened with all kids'clothes, though, not just boys. And it does depe d on the shop; some have a better range of sizes than others. Could 't say which, though - shopping bores me so much I blank thecdetails from my memory afterwards!

tattycoram · 24/01/2009 13:48

That's ridiculous. What about looking online? This is the thread yetoxichighroad mentioned

Are these any good?

Thanks tattyc, I'll look at the thread. But look at the sizing on Rainbowbabies - they do a 122-128 and a 134-140 but not a 128-134!!!

Herbie, it's the sleeves that are always ridiculous (and I would probably have bought the 9-10, but having (politely) expressed my opinion to the shop about the inadequacies of their stock, I felt I had better leave!)

we're having this with pjs at the minute. can't find any in age 6-7 at all. 5-6 are too short and 7-8 are drowning him.

subtlemouse - unisex plain and stripey tops here www.kidsshouldbekids.co.uk/
Nice quality and wash well.

brimfull · 24/01/2009 15:10

daisy I have the same problem with ds

I find it almost impossible to find jeans with a slim enough bum for him. He's not unusually slim either.

Gap slim fit are about the only ones I can find that fit ,and they are hard to find.

tattycoram · 24/01/2009 15:18

Sorry subtlemouse, I didn't look in detail. The kidsshouldbekids stuff is lovely though.
