What sort of thing can I wear over these dresses to keep my warm(ish).......(fairly urgent - need to shop tomorrow)

when out for a fag/walking to the car/next pub (should we decided to do that).

Following on from my "I've been invited out to dinner" thread - I have the dresses

this one

this

this

and

this

I'm going out on this Saturday evening for dinner and have realised I have nothing to wear on top to keep me warmer when it's going to be cold.

I can get to town tomorrow (probably only Matalan/Peacocks/similer ) but hope to be able to pick something up...

It needs to be fairly versatile as I don't want to have to buy something to wear over each of the dresses.

What sort of thing am I looking for?? (links to pictures of what you're talking about would be appreciated as I have no clue about these things )

I spect a short bolero cardi would be good.

never looked at Littlewoods before but they are fab dresses and brilliant prices. Specially like the second one.

Heated · 22/01/2009 21:09

Waterfall cardigan or a long sleeved shrug?

TheRealMrsJohnSimm · 22/01/2009 21:11

I agree that you need a little cardi.

FAQtothefuture · 22/01/2009 21:11

thanks for these ideas

  • just to prove my ignorance about clothes and the likes I've just had to do a google search for the 3 items suggested so far ......and yes those dresses were chosen with the help of MN too

oh nice dresses love the stripey one.
i'd wear something like this with it
here

and a chunky black bangle.

Lilyloo · 22/01/2009 21:12

I can only get on two links but love second one down.

How about short sleeved shrug.

Black probabaly best.

Lizzylou · 22/01/2009 21:12

OK, from Peacocks

this one

maybe?

FAQtothefuture · 22/01/2009 21:13

and what sort of colour?

Obviously I'd like to be able to use it with any of those dresses (as I'm a cheap skate )

OP posts:
Heated · 22/01/2009 21:13

You mentioned Peacocks & Matalan so had a quick look at their websites, so like thisshrug but in a finer material

or but in the right colour?

Lizzylou · 22/01/2009 21:13

LOve that New Look shrug.

LOvely dresses btw

Lizzylou · 22/01/2009 21:14

I think black would go with all of them

FAQtothefuture · 22/01/2009 21:15

yes Matalan and Peacocks are about all we have in terms of shopping for womens clothes .

oh we have a Bon Marche too.......but I'm not stepping foot in there if you paid me (see I do know something about clothes lol)

OP posts:
Heated · 22/01/2009 21:17

Sorry with the last link, it's the waterfall cardi, but think that New Look one LSB posted has promise. But don't wear a fab knockout dress and cheap-looking accesories otherwise it'll cheapen the whole look.

FAQtothefuture · 22/01/2009 21:17

oh actually I lie we do have a New look (slaps forehead).

I'm all of a dither, need to get my hair cut tomorrow too, and sort moving stuff,

Still I know I can always rely on MN to help me out with what to wear/buy

OP posts:
FAQtothefuture · 22/01/2009 21:19

well I don't really do accessories

mainly because I haven't got a clue what looks good and what doesn't

I need a personal shopper really - but unfortunately the benefits just don't stretch that far

OP posts:
Flier · 22/01/2009 21:21

a wee black shrug, definately.
couldn't open all the links but I love love love the 2nd dress.

Lilyloo · 22/01/2009 21:32

I would do

with second dress

black short sleeve shrug , black clutch bag and shoes.

Minimal jewellery so small necklace and earings or a large chunky black bracelet but nothing else.

i bung a parka over everything in this weather regardless of if it goes or not

motherlovebone · 22/01/2009 22:29

what about having a rummage in the charity shops?

FAQtothefuture · 23/01/2009 07:49

thanks everyone, will have a look when I go into town later today at least I have an idea of what I'm looking for.

motherlovebone - I would usually try the charity shops, but I can only really go in them when DS3 is asleep in his pushchair (otherwise he clears the racks/shelves and has a tantrum when I stop him), but I need to get my hair cut too, and can only do that when he's asleep as well LOL.
