Help - due to give birth 4 weeks before best friend's wedding

Yikes, will be guest at my best friends wedding (we have been best friends for 30 years, since nursery, so this is a Very Big Deal) - and will have given birth about 4 weeks beforehand.

Clearly am not going to have my figure back by then... but what on earth am I going to wear? Baby will be there, and I will have to do feeds through the day (presumably - this is my first, so I am completely clueless and sure I will be a frazzled wreck).

I've already wimped out of the hen weekend, just in case baby comes early (upstaging the bride by going into labour on her hen weekend is not something she would ever forgive me for, 30 years of friendship or not!) so I have to pull out all the stops for the wedding.

Ideas, anyone??

Here is the thread with some suggestions to start you off

Control underwear and something that shows cleavage as you'll have more, heels, big nice bag instead of changing bag, jewels, painted nails and touche eclat on your undereye shadows so you can wear a plainish outfit that flatters. No need for breastfeeding tops - just drape a pashmina over you and baby.
You'll be fine and your baby will upstage the bride!

I was bridesmaid for my best friend 12 weeks after my first baby. I suggest you get something to wear nearer the time, as it's so hard to know what size you'll be.
No recommendations really, I'm afraid, but just wanted to butt in!
I had a lovely time, even with baby in tow, and found that it took very little wine to get me on the dance floor!!!

Thank you ladies!

Have to admit, laughing at the idea of draping a pash over the baby, Michael Jackson styleee.

Can I drink a little bit of wine (more than a glass?) even if I am breastfeeding?

God, how I miss wine. Was fine while I had morning sickness and the smell made me barf, but now that's gone, I MISS IT SO MUCH.

Not that I have a drinking problem, you understand

pashmina thing only works if you have a dress you can pull down or unbutton,or a top that's easy to pull up.I wore a wrap dress to an event when my baby was quite small as I could pull it aside easily-must confess I went to the car to bf though as I couldn't get comfortable on the dining chair and I also wanted a bit of quiet time with the baby and no elderly men gawping at my breasts. Also wore spanx pants but friend at wedding with 6 week old also in spanx said she had the body of a supermodel but the flatulence of an old tramp.
I would go for glam and low cut but loose-ish over tummy top,and maybe wide leg trousers and gorgeous shoes,if you want to feel at ease but still gorgeous!

ROFL laughing at pash only working if you have a suitable top to pull down/up...was just imagining Verity turning up to wedding in lovely long dress only to find she has to pull whole dress up, over her control armoury knickers and postpartum tummy. Sorry Verity

Wrap dress sounds like a fab idea

Isabella Oliver.

VerityClinch · 19/01/2009 21:46

Squeaver - I am thinking of buying the IO wrap dress with the frill for work... do you think I could get away with it for the wedding too?

Rindercella - believe me when I tell you that no-one will be seeing my post-partum tummy! (Unless I have more than one glass of wine, obv - then, anything could happen).
