nail polish storage and how long it lasts

Just been sorting out my nail stuff. Some polishes I have had for years and they still look fine. Others I have had for less time and they look like they have separated. Is is down to the brand and is there a set time you are meant to bin them after once opened or do you just wait until they look funny?

I dilute my thick ones with a little nail varnish remover.

I heard that if you put them in the fridge they last longer. Nail varnish remover does do the trick but you have to be careful and only put a few drops in.

I used to think that but then read it was a myth.

It does depend on the brand.Nail polish remover can ruin them.
