Right, have tried on my pre-DC clothes, none (quite) fit.

Going to a wedding in London next Saturday, sure everyone else will be v stylish & slim, pressure pressure

I'm about a size 12, have rapidly reducing norks (wearing my A cup bras again - having just stopped bf), want to be warm, smart, etc. etc.

What do I wear??????????????????

Shopping choices are limited to:
Debenhams
TK Maxx
Monsoon
Next
M&S
New Look
Primark

scraping the barrel....

The wedding is at 1.30.

MrsSB - not to worry, we are all different. i want to be led out of comfort zone a bit i think anyway (given that current comfort zone is comfy cord trousers & t-shirt from primark )

Yeahbut's blue Monsoon dress (1st link) is really nice!

JustKeepSwimming · 17/01/2009 09:56

and i could probably wear my current navy heels with it?

but what tights oh MN-styly people? not black i would guess? 'nude' colour????

JustKeepSwimming · 17/01/2009 09:57

So far:

Monsoon - coat & dress
Next - dress & jacket
Debenhams - chilly dresses!

OP posts:
JustKeepSwimming · 17/01/2009 09:59

this one from monsoon too?

OP posts:
foxinsocks · 17/01/2009 10:00

there's a silk blue stripy dress in monsoon that I've had my eye on but not sure how norktastic you'd need to be (could always shove on a padded effort if need be)here(apols if someone linked to it!)

saw that in m&s and thought it looked ok (and good price too)

JustKeepSwimming · 17/01/2009 10:03

eye was drawn to that m&s one too

Like that monsoon dress A LOT!
will try on and see how boobs fare.
padded always an option

Just to throw a spanner in the works - more for inspiration than anything else really!-although still within your budget), see Philip Lim dresshere

Also - Browns have accessorised with black tights so that must be OK?

JustKeepSwimming · 17/01/2009 10:03

Right, am off, will report back!
Thanks for links & tips

OP posts:
mrsseanbean · 17/01/2009 10:05

Good luck - hope you get sorted!

foxinsocks · 17/01/2009 10:06

ah yes, look forward to hearing what you get!

JustKeepSwimming · 17/01/2009 14:16

Ok, i'm back and had lunch.
Phew, knackered!

right review:

Monsoon
had NONE of the dresses we had picked out to try on
they only had the coat in black and white, i tried it on but it felt a bit too stiff to be comofortable.
tried on a few bits, ended up buying:

this dress
{DH doesn't like it, it is too thin for next week and not v flattering so going back}
and
this top
attempting to match a skirt I've already got but I don't like all the lace so going back too!

= not a great success but......a size 10

M&S
had NO dresses AT ALL wtf?
anyway, got some of those jeans that sit on the waist, again size 12 too big, yey, bought the 10's but DH thinks they are too tight will keep them though.
Took the chance to go for a bra measurement - more good news am a 34B
so bought a few plain ones.

Debenhams
the chilly dresses would have been way too cold so didn't try them on.
tried
this dress
but i don't have the boobs required, too baggy at the top.
bought a shirt just for normal wear.
and found some new in dresses that looked lovely.
I bought a (size 10 again ) gorgeous green one, silky, lined with a flowery type pattern on the top.
Can't see it anywhere on the website though, will have to take a photo and put on profile!
{most importantly DH thinks it's lovely too}
awkwardly, I don't think I have anything that will match it re shoes, jewellery, jacket, etc......

Next
No purple dress, jacket or that cream suit. Hardly anything really, didn't try anything on.

H&M
(forgot to mention them before)
Got some casual tops + another navy one that might match the skirt i already have.
The dresses they did have were pretty yucky if i'm honest!
And bad news - i'm a 14 in there

So, several hours, lots of money & sore feet later....I have a dress with no link! will go and get a photo sorted in a mo.

Still tempted to try a bigger Monsoon in London on Saturday morning to find either the blue dress with flowers or the blue stripy silky one.

Oh what a disappointment with the stock, but for you at being size 10!

Glad you like the green one though, look forward to pic. You now have an excuse to go shopping again to get the accessories

JustKeepSwimming · 19/01/2009 12:29

OK, have added pics of dress i bought to profile, have a look and see what you think. i'm crap at taking photos of myself!

Plus, atm i only have those black shoes, can i wear them?
And with tights?
otherwise will freeze.
And will freeze anyway unless anyone has ideas for what to wear on top!

OP posts:
mrsseanbean · 19/01/2009 12:55

Swimming, the dress looks lovely on you, much better than on the hanger! I reckon you need some shoes with a higher heel though.
How about a smart - I hestitate to use the word - but 'cardigan'/more of a knitted jacket on top? Swingy shape/ something shawl like maybe... Dark brown and a pin to pick out the colour of the dress if you can find one.

How about fine opaque tights, not the really thick ones but warmer than normal - 40denier I think?

JustKeepSwimming · 19/01/2009 13:10

Thanks

So, if i find a dark brown cardigan-type jacket & black tights?
Can't do much higher heels than that or i'll fall over, lol!
If i have black tights i should be ok with black shoes? but they have that cut out bit at the back so will they look weird with tights? argh.

2nd option:
A blue, red & white patterned skirt i bought 2 years ago. Is a little loose but i think i can get away with it. It has this really annoying sash/tie/belt thing that i never know what to do with!
with a navy top & jacket - i only have a short sleeve jacket but better than nothing.
and then i can wear my navy smart shoes.

3rd option:
take all shoes & tights to london when i go up on friday, go shopping sat morning and find the perfect solution!

OP posts:
mrsseanbean · 19/01/2009 13:18

Dark brown with black not ideal I guess, although I confess I do wear this combination. If you had a black bag it may pull together better, and/or a black hat? I don't think the open heel will show with the thicker tights.

Option 2 sounds like a good 'reserve'. Remove the sash? Or tie around the top / jacket combo - sheesh you have a good figure - why not flaunt it!

Option 3 leaves all your choices but runs the risk of you getting flustered and indecisive at the last minute with too many options - I know I would!

I have just had a quick look but couldn't find anything like what I was imagining. I was thinking something soft and drapey if you go for a cardi, so it looks less like a cardy and more like a shawl. I guess you could always actually use a shawl if you had one/ found one. Depends how long you will be outdoors.

JustKeepSwimming · 19/01/2009 16:17

hmm, tricky.

how about this on top?

Or i could just wear my winter coat on top. choice of black or bright red though

OP posts:
JustKeepSwimming · 19/01/2009 16:35

is this too frumpy?

OP posts:
JustKeepSwimming · 19/01/2009 16:37

Saw this thought maybe, then saw price

OP posts:
JustKeepSwimming · 19/01/2009 16:41

There are a few in Debenhams actually, could try and see if any of them are in stock, take dress with me to see if they match:

one

two

three

or this?

OP posts:
mrsseanbean · 19/01/2009 17:24

I like the Maxmara jacket swimming.

I also like the Wallis cardigan with the corsage attached. I think it would be improved by wearing with another belt (maybe brown patent?) instead of the matching tie belt that comes with it though?

JustKeepSwimming · 19/01/2009 18:09

LOL - i thought you might say you liked the 2 that i don't know where their shops are!
argh!!!

I HATE DRESSING UP!!!!

MIght still go for the navy option - will have to try and get a photo to put on profile as the skirt isn't in the shops anymore, although i will fiddle with the darn sash thing al day.
AND i would have to take the dress back if i don't wear it, it was £70 so can't really afford to just leave it in the wardrobe (esp when i'm hoping to lose more weight so it will be too big soon!).
