Anyone really pleased to have gone from Blonde to Brunette?

i am thinking of going from blonde highlights which have been the same for 10 years back to my dark roots??

but this is very scary decision...

I have recently lost weight so do have a bit mor confidence in my decision but not sure if it is the right one....

Entirely not what you want to hear but I was a long term highlighted blonde then decided on a whim to go back to my 'natural' colour, a light brown. I utterly hated it, felt invisible and went back to the hairdressers for super blond highlights a day later.

charlottesmum5 · 15/01/2009 20:41

ditto - 2 weeks ago I decided to go back to my 'natural' dark brown - I hate it and have made an appointment to get my blonde back again1!

If you get really high contrast highlights on brown (it's called a "coffee and cream" look, here) it doesn't end up being "boring brunette.

Jacksmama · 15/01/2009 20:45

Look on my profile, there are a couple of pics that show it well.
Good luck!

I did about a year ago and thought I liked it, but I recently saw my mother and sister and both of them urged me to go back to blonde. I think I will.

mindalina · 15/01/2009 20:46

I switch between blonde and a nice bright reddish brown and I love it

Something like this - it is actually much redder in real life, doesn't photograph well at all.

I have recently lost a little bit of weight as well, and I think dying my hair darker has emphasised it especially in my face. The red does fade quickly though, leaving quite a dull brown behind, so has to be done every month or so probably (I do not do mine this often as I am lazy )

onepieceofbrusselssprout · 15/01/2009 20:50

I had blonde highlights for a year or two. I wasn't keen tbh but I think that they were possibly too light for my mid brown hair. I was happy to go back to my natural colour but I am fortunate enough to not have any grey hair yet. Also I found it irritating that my roots showed very quickly so I had to keep getting the hairdresser to re do them. Also they made my hair very dry and it is usually in good condition.

TheRealMrsJohnSimm · 15/01/2009 20:51

I was a highlighted un-natural blonde for 10 years too and decided to go back to my brunette roots last year. I love it. I went for a very rich brown with a fair amount of red in it and also had a few very subtle blonde highlights put through it too (think more brunette sunkissed than full on highlights).

peanutbear · 15/01/2009 20:52

I was always blonde till 12 months ago first I went a light brown colour and hated it but now I am a dark chocolate colour and love it it suits me better and my hair looks much shinier

LittleBella · 15/01/2009 20:53

I was brunette, but lots grey and got sick of roots so went blonde.

I hate it and am considering going back to brunette.

SpeccieSeccie · 15/01/2009 20:56

I did and I love it! Such a relief to be honest, as the highlights were a total stress to keep up with as I have quite dark hair naturally. Now I just get a semi-permanent close to my own colour (to make it shiny and cover any grey) and I feel quite freed from about 8 years of roots-issues. Plus, it's cheaper.

BlueSapphire77 · 15/01/2009 21:20

I was going to say the same as jacksmama, about the coffee and cream look, i have that done (natural mousy crappy blonde lol) had dark underneath and a lovely mix of dark and highlights on top.. its lovely and not boring at all If i do say so myself

sammysam · 15/01/2009 21:27

I went dark last year-it looked good-but I didn't feel like me at all and ended up feeling rubbish. Since then i've been going lighter again-feel much better now.
I did love not having roots but my hair is not that dark naturally and i think that if you are quite dark then you will look better and being darker again iyswim?

OHBollox · 15/01/2009 22:54

I'm saving up to go blonde again, it made a nice change but it's not me so blonde bob will be back by spring at the latest.
I felt older, I think I look older and I definately had less fun !

sammysam · 16/01/2009 09:04

I agree OHNollox! Thats how I felt! Really stupid really-surely it can't make the much difference

EldonAve · 16/01/2009 09:16

I went from v light blonde to brunette (dyed it) about 6 yrs ago and hated it

Over the summer I stopped having highlights and went naturally darker. I thought it was fine but decided to have highlights before Xmas and felt so much better

Penthesileia · 16/01/2009 09:25

I used to dye my hair blonde; let it grow back to its natural colour - medium brown. It does, I think, look better. My DH is always telling me how beautiful my hair is.

Thing is, I dyed it because I was young and convinced by the 'blondes have more fun' 'gentlemen prefer blondes' line. I realised I was dyeing my hair to conform to some kind of fake idea of beauty.

O/T (sort of)

Jacksmama - you are really lovely looking. And your wee boy is GORGEOUS!
