Bit of forward planning here-my 1st friends wedding in April-what to wear?

The only wedding i've been to previously where distant family weddings years ago (so mum bought us 'lovely' clothes!!) and this is the first of my friends getting married (unless you count the one who got married just her her dh and their ds). I have not a clue what to get to wear It's on April 4th so it will be quite cold still. I can't ever get jackets to fit me as i'm an odd shape (size 8 shoulders-size 12 hips).
Please can I have some ideas on the kind of thing and good places to look-i know I have a while yet but I never get to go shopping so I need to get thinking way in advance!

Bumping for you.

are you looking for a dress or skirt/trousers and a top?

Budget?

Colours you love or which we need to avoid in our search?

BTW, ime its always better to buy your outfit way in advance - nothing worse than event-induced panic buying!

Thanks for bumping!

Either really-dress/skirt is something I never wear normally so would feel more special but trousers need less work-re legs etc! Am open to either!

Not a massive budget at all-haven't thought much yet-£100 plus extra for shoes as I appear to own absolutely nothing that would be anywhere near suitable...
but would be willing to spend more as my sister is also getting married this december-i'm a bridesmaid but depending on how much of an awful dress she makes me wear I may need something to change into

I have trouble knowing what colours suit me but dark colours (navy, maroon, dark green, grey etc) look really bad, I tend to wear earthy tones and also quite bright colours.

I'm normally the panic crazed mad woman buying whatever vaugely looks ok it would be nice to have put together a thoughtful outfit that actually makes me look fantastic-there is a first time afterall!!!

I love the first one but that blue is a colour that doesn't suit me-maybe it'd look better on and there is a lot of white?

I love the shape of the second one but not the colours...
What would I wear to keep me warm? [have no idea ehat i'm doing emoticon!]
