Anyone tried the new cheap mineral make up ranges like Rimmel and Max Factor?

Just wondering because I'm a big mineral make up fan but I find Bare Escentuals a bit pricey. Lilylolo is a better price but still not cheap. I was wondering if all the high-street brands that have brought out mineral make up ranges are any good? I know that Lilylolo and Bare EScentuals don't have any added ingredients other than the minerals. Have the cheaper brands got lots of other nasties added?

don't know about nasties RR but i did buy the rimmel one and found it very clumpy. It is not as light as Lilylolo and tended to look more like a mask- a bit cakey IMHO. I see this morning that Boots No 7 have started a new range- might try it after my never ending lilylolo runs out.

RamblingRosa · 13/01/2009 14:43

Yes I saw that No.7 have got a mineral range but I think it's as pricey as Lilylolo if not more. Can't remember if it was £14 or £16!

I quite like Maybellines foundation face powder one. It is about £7 IIRC. No idea what is in it but I have sensitive skin and it is fine.

I'm using Maybelline atm, didn't know if i could 'do' powder, so am trying a cheap(ish) one to begin with, i'm really happy with it. No idea if its full of nasties though.

Interesting. Wonder how I could find out about the ingredients...? Might look on their website.

Ive tried loreal one but doesnt suit my skin, makes it looks worse in fact showing up all my pores etc.

I usually use the Jane Iredale one but I bought the L'Oreal one and it looked very unnatural.

RamblingRosa · 14/01/2009 10:16

What's the Jane Iredale one like? It looks nice but quite pricey and I don't know where you can buy it other than online.

I treid the MAC one - don't know why don't use foundation so now it is sitting at the bottom of my make up bag - it is good though!

I use the JI PurePressed one and it gives a very natural look so it doesn't look like I'm wearing any foundation. I get it from a salon but you can get it much cheaper on ebay once you know what shade you need. I also bought the handi brush to apply it with but I don't think it is anything special. I really rate the JI for a no-make-up look.

I've got the Max Factor one. Not sure about nasties but I'm not that impressed with it. The coverage is not great, you need to use quite a lot and then it looks powdery.

liz12 · 04/02/2009 11:16

Jane Iredale is pure minerals and lasts for months. I think some of the cheaper brands have a level of talc in them to pad it out and that means the coverage isn't so good and also looks powdery.

hazeyjane · 04/02/2009 11:22

Maybelline is the 'purest' (ie no talc), it is 9.99 (they do alot of offers though). Rimmell is 7.99, but feels more cakey and their lightest shade is too dark on me.

you should try www.halomineralmakeup.co.uk it is fantastic , free postage and really cheap but not any different than expensive name brand mineral makeup. i use it and find it better than most expensive brands, the concealers are half the price of name brand mineral makeup costs but just as good and it does not have nasty chemicals in it.
