I don't mean to upset anyone (honest!) but why is everyone on MN so crazy about Boden?

I mean they have some nice stuff, but it's quite pricey for what it is and the quality not outstanding. also a lot of the styles are quite "distinctive"- you can spot a Boden wearer a mile away.

I occasionally buy one or two things for myself and a few bits for the dds on the sale- but there's so many other places to buy things which are cheaper and essentially the same or better quality. Of course it's a question of style which is individual but it seems to be almost the MN uniform.

perhaps I am not the MN type after all :-)

totally agree with Boden being disappointing for womenswear but I have got loads for my DD (always in sales natch - seasonal along with highstreet I think Dinny). DD2 now in all DD1's Boden hand-me-downs and they are good as new. Sick of getting caught up in cheap thrills at Primark and Peacocks only to find items shrunken, mis-shapen with loose threads everywhere after one wash. Also agree that Boden stuff doesn't make DDs look like mini-teenagers which is very appealing as that will come all too soon....

I used to be totally overwhelmed with a Boden obsession, I grew out of it when there seemed to be lots of people wearing it everywhere I went and the women I met whose children were similarly clad to mine seemed to be looking down their noses at everyone who wasn't part of the Boden clan. It seemed to become more of a status symbol to wear the label around these parts IYKWIM

Also, I don't think the Boden quality is what it was several years ago. I've discovered I don't even like half the stuff in Womenswear, oh, and eldest DD has outgrown the kids sizes so I know I'm not going to get 1/3 of the wear out of it that I would have done a few years ago!!)

Oh dear, I seem to have a bit of a rant don't I? Perhaps I should go and write an apology to Johnnie...

i don't think mn is so boden crazy. boden's range is the same as any other shops range, there is some stuff you like, and some stuff you don't. it just seems boden crazy, firstly because they do have good reductions in their sale, and secondly because it's all online. you can browse boden and mn at the same time

and if you think the womens clothes are boring, have you seen the mens?!! [yawn emoticon]

mrsmaidamess · 09/01/2009 19:58

I think there is a Boden tendency on here though, I see threads saying 'Has your catalogue come? What will you be ordering?'

newgirl · 09/01/2009 19:59

love the kids clothes - online is a big factor for me as no good kids clothes shops near us - if they made it a bit cheaper i would buy even more tbh

have bought the odd woman's thing in past - trousers and cardis and have been happy with them - but much of it i think is too old for me

LiffeyOink · 09/01/2009 20:19

I agree.

SilentTerror · 09/01/2009 20:23

I also buy 'unrecognisable' Boden clothes.
Didn't actually buy much for myself last season though, but got DCS stuff in the sale.
Will probably buy a few items for myself out of spring range, but have to admit head to toe Boden is frumpy.
For me,it is ease of ordering, good service, and actually like some of the things.

Yunyun · 09/01/2009 20:43

I love Boden for my dd. The clothes are lovely, wear well, and very reasonably priced in the sales (£12.50 for a fleece-lined anorak).
Plus I can browse/buy online and they have great customer service.
Wouldn't be seen dead in the Women's stuff though. Well, unless it was free.

mejon · 09/01/2009 21:01

I only buy stuff in the sale and then mostly for DD. I'm not really the right shape for the womens clothes - far too short and fat - though I will admit to having bought one of the spotty macs a couple of winters ago which I'm still wearing.

I agree there probably is a bit of an obsession here on MN - ha ha I even started a Boden thread myself this week. I have arrived at last !

Pinkchampagne · 09/01/2009 21:05

I bought DS2 a pair of sandals from boden last summer & the buckle fell off after a couple of wears!

im on mn and im not crazy for boden...

I have bought a few items for the dk's (dd got some cropped pants and ds some shorts) but I found them expensive for what they are. No better ino than next or m&s. Washed the same, felt the same and imo didn't have a WOW factor.

Im not stingy when it comes to the lo's either tw, having bought them various expensive (some designer) outfits etc.
