A question for those of you who wear skinny jeans...

If you don't mind me asking - what size are you? I'm a 10/12 but all my fat is on my hips, bum and thighs and of course I now have a muffin top. Anytime I have tried on a pair of skinny jeans I reckon I would need at least a size 14.
Now, normally I would stear clear, but Gok says anyone can wear them - IYO is this true?

I don't size up, I get them in my size (10, and I have a pair of 8s for good days - have not worn that particular pair since getting pg with 6 month old DC3 though!). Have an ok pair from H&M.

Will second the martha from topshop suggestion if nervous about skinnies. They can be worn with boots so quite versatile. Had a couple of pairs in a larger size that I wore on a rotation system after having DC3. I have fairly ok legs shape wise but any extra weight tends to go straight to my 'love handle' and hip area so I just had a couple of loose tops, or long vest and long cardi type combo (topshop also do long vests), to wear with it.

meant to say: boots as well as trainers so quite versatile

I fear even if I got a pair of skinnies on they would make me look like an upside down triangle. A bit too top heavy I feel. And it;s not as if you can wear chunky footwear to balance. UGGs no good btw, I hate them.

Doomed to life in bootcuts.

im pear shaped and i bought some 'marthas' today ..so far i am really pleased.[i have a small waist and my widest part (top of thighs)seems miles away]

structurally, my marthas can cope with my odd shape better than most jeans i have tried on recently i.e.they have a bit of stretch and are cut higher on the waist.

as a look though, i dont think skinny jeans do a pear shape any favours...beyond creating a contemporary shape/outline.

Hmmm. Those Marthas may be worth investigating.

TheRealMrsJohnSimm · 05/01/2009 21:20

Mrs SB, I often wear my Martha's with mid-calf biker boots which are chunky - they help balance out my tummy/thighs if I am going through a bloat/chunky phase.

thanks again everyone, am very hopeful that these marthas will fit me well, so will hopefully get along to topshop tomorrow.

Are Marthas tight round the knee area? Or are they like a straight slim jeans shape?

idontlikesundays · 06/01/2009 19:16

Don't think they are tight around the knee, but they are a slimmer/skinnier fit than most jeans claiming to be straight-legged. They are loose enough at the bottom to wear boots underneath them too, which is what I do.

Horton · 07/01/2009 10:24

Thanks, sundays. They sound great. I will investigate.

CountessDracula · 07/01/2009 10:28

I don't think skinny jeans look good on people with big hips and bums. It just exacerbates it.

Better on apples than pears iykwim.

I guess if you wear a long top/short dress over would be fine though.

Surely you shouldn't be able to fit boots under skinny jeans?!

Have you tried Uniqlo?
