Matress Toppers - Do They Work?

Not sure if this is really Style and Beauty but here goes!
We have a latex mattress that we have never been very happy with - I never experience that little sigh of happiness when you get into a bed and sink into a lovely comfy matress! It cost a lot (now 3 years old) so DH v relucant to replace when in his view there is nothing wrong with it!!! Would a matress topper work???? If so, where would you advise getting one from??? I'm getting a tad confused re what they are and do!!!

we had one from ikea - the most expensive, firm one they do, on a saggy old mattress... made a world of difference and plenty of 'aaah'.
Definitely cheaper than a new bed!

I have a memory foam topper and wouldn't be without it.
My Mum got one and hated it.

Was looking at the one from Next which is a duck down and feather topper (looks like a v thick duvet!!!!) - presume that would be softer than a memory foam topper??? Can you see why I'm getting so confused!!!!

Oooo, I love mattress toppers. I always think that it's cheaper to replace a topper than a whole mattress too, if the worst happens and a small child is sick on it or I have a massive blood leak. It's worth it for the extra comfort alone though, and it seems to keep me warmer in winter - I reckon that a lot of heat is lost downwards into the mattress.

We love our memory foam topper.

Watching this thread with interest as our mattress is knackered too

cocolepew · 03/01/2009 19:06

Can you get a latex topper? My memory foam one was bought because our mattress was knackered, we used to met in the middle . The topper worked brilliantly and I still use it on our new matress for my sore hip. I didn't really like he feather type, not enough support so it depends on what you like, hard or soft. (No innuendos intended )

I have a memory foam topper and it is amazing! not sure I like the idea of a feather/down one as I picture is being very hot as you would be sleeping between two duvets. Went to Ikea and they had them all out on the beds for you to test so might be an idea to go and try them out (even if you don't buy from there!)

geordieminx · 03/01/2009 20:28

Do you have to have ikea sized bed for an ikea matress topper?

intheskywithdiamonds · 03/01/2009 20:38

good point geordieminx, that is def worth checking out. When it comes to beds and duvets/linen there can be huge differences when it comes to dimensions. I just went to ikea to check out the feel of them and then hunted around online to get the best bargain I could!
