anyone tried all 3-
Chantecaille
Laura Mercier
Bobbi Brown

I would use the ones for dry/ancient skin.

Currently use Clinique Repair Wear and like a lot, but sometimes looks just a tiny bit heavy.

LOL at ancient skin!

I use the Chantecaille real skin (tinted moisturiser) is amazing, quite matt and quite a lot of coverage for a tinted moisturiser. Also Laura Mercier (tm) also, glowy and sheerer than the Chantecaille - I use this in the summer. I also have Bobbi Brown (glass bottle) foundation. Perfect, sophis. not heavy but more coverage. Cod always swore by Chanel Vitalumiere for dry skin, might be worth trying that one too.

If you live near a big dept I would go to Selfridges or sim and try them all out - none are cheap - I wouldn't buy online.

I've tried Laura Mercier (foundation) and Bobbi Brown (tinted moisturiser and foundation) and prefer both Bobbi Brown things to LM. However, I am an oily skin person, so that might be completely irrelevant.

True- will not buy online- am near enough all big posh shops.

The Chanel does not come in a shade light enough- had a try at the counter- I am very pale- sue Alabaster in Clinique.

I think the TM would not give enough coverage, tbh. My skin is in good shape and no wrinkles hardly, but I like a medium coverage not sheer.

Will go experimenting soon!

If you've got dry skin you might also want to look at Lily Lolo or another mineral. I've switched to this and my skin feels much nicer for it. I swear my pores are shrinking too

Hello.

Currently I have BB and LM.

The LM is Laura Mercier tinted moisturiser. I'd second the report about glowy/sheer. It's also v. moisturising, though I tend to go for overkill and put another moisturiser on first.

The Bobbi Brown I have is moisture rich foundation SPF 15. It has very good coverage. I suspect it has a great deal of pigment in it, so it doesn't look pancakey, despite that good coverage. I tend to use it when my skin needs a bit more help. I always wear moisturiser underneath.

I very rarely wear either of them all day, but iirc, the LM moisturiser is more comfy/moisturising for a longer period than the BB. But you do lose that great "finished" quality.

Haven't tried Chantecaille.

zen- thanks - that's really useful.

i currently use the mac one. but i apply it withthe brush, in circular motion. and it comes on very very lightly. is perfect imo

I've used clinique for years so would also be interested in looking at something else.

I tried a dior one but found it felt waxy on my skin (can't remember what it was called though) and use Virgin Vie one step face base for every day. I used to use estee lauder double matt (or was it double wear?) when I used to go out more than I do now as i found it stayed put for ages, but you had to be careful to only use a little and apply it quickly as it dried quite fast. Though I tried the light version at an airport recently and am tempted.

I always find that I need to take samples away and try them a few times though cos sometimes foundations make my skin feel yucky by the end of the day.

honestfriend · 30/12/2008 17:36

AM- and the light in stores i never as good as daylight.
I also like to see how a foundation "wears" as the day goes on.
