Can you haggle with the heavily-painted ladies at the beauty counters in John Lewis?

I'm planning to buy some more elemis pro collagen marine cream with some christmas money, but at £75 a pot I was wondering whether firstly such things ever go on sale at this time of year, somehow I assume not, therefore I was wondering whether the ladies on the counters in department stores have authority to drop the price?

Anyone know? Or where I could get a deal on the stuff? I've looked at ebay but despite great feedback I'm wary of buying in case they're not genuine. Where does one person get supplied to be selling 5 pots a week? Knock-off surely?

Anyway I digress sorry. So am I allowed to ask if they can reduce the price or will I just be shuffling off extremely red-faced?

Try QVC, I always get my Elemis from there - especially when they do a TSV.

Actually i've just looked and theirs is £75 a pot at the moment too but they do lots of special offers.

Have always wondered how face creams are discounted on ebay...

Think department stores don't have authority to drop price as it's a contractual thing with the manufacturer.

But why not ask for discount, or a 'deal' on another item?

ducky reliable and quick is great but I want a deal too! I feel like a child stamping it's feet. Everything is going to be reduced in price in the next month as they desperately try to get us to buy things, so why do I think the one thing I want will be full price?

ducky, got there, yes I've had my eye on that set, thought it looked like a good deal for £50, but I can't see anything about either 20% off or £15? Sorry, am I being really blind, or do you have a code?

There was a feature on Radio 4 about this last week (?) with a man who went into a dept store- think it was Debhs.- and asked for a 20% discount off perfume. The asst was amazed but he made her ask the manager- who came down, spoke to him, and agreed- then they guy upped it to 25% and got it!!

his point being- if you don't ask, you won't get!
Maybe all MN should try it!!!!

I used to work in boots and wasnt authorised to give discount altho i never actually asked. Id imagine not tho, counter girls work on commision too so any way to make more money for themselves. Most ud get is free gift id think.
