Jo Malone- what's your fave?

Going to buy some Jo Malone cologne with my xmas money- have you a fave?

I have tried the French lime blossom, as a tester, and I like greeny-type perfumes- but I also quite like something a but sultry/musky.

I do NOT like sweet sickly florals- hate Anais Anais for example.

any suggestions to help me choose?

I love the Fig and Cassis one.

Gingerbear · 26/12/2008 21:34

Pomegranate Noir is sultry and gorgeous.
Lime Basil and Mandarin is light and green. I have both.

honestfriend · 26/12/2008 21:35

Is it sickly - how would you describe it?

I know pomegranate noir is popular- what's the verdict on that?

sorry- x post!

french lime blossom is lovely

Gingerbear · 26/12/2008 21:41

Not sickly. It says fruity on the website, but it is actually more woody than fruity IMO.
Can you get to a store to try?

zenandtheartofbaking · 26/12/2008 22:08

Honestfriend - all of Jo Malone's perfumes are fairly linear, which gives them a great deal of feminine lightness, I don't think any of them are very sickly. Even "Pomegranate noir" is, imho, quite ladylike rather than overtly sultry/musky. It's more masculine than most of the others, but iirc it contains patchouli rather than musk.

"Lime, basil and mandarin" is sweet but very fresh, my fil bought bathroom things for us one year because he liked the fragrance. It's her bestseller and I'm sure you'd like it. The freshness and the sweetness balance each other in an interesting way. It's not at all cloying, you can wear it all day.

"Orange blossom" is a fragrance I have bought for a number of people as gifts and it has proved popular. Again, it's sweet-ish but with a hint of inner rock chick.

honestfriend · 26/12/2008 22:12

Thanks all- I can get to a store- no probs- but there is a limit to how many you can try on your wrist in one go! I am trying to narrow it down to 3-4 so that I can choose.

Sorry - I can't help myself.

I know you said you like green fragrances and don't like sweet florals but could I just tell you about Estee Lauder's Private collection "Tuberose and Gardenia"?

Just have a spray when you're out shopping.

I have never worn anything that has had so many people asking me what it is I'm wearing and I feel I should pass the info. on.

Yes, it's a floral, yes, it's sweet but it is just so darned pretty and freshly-ironed!

P. S. I recommended the "Orange Blossom" because I was rackng my brains for "sultry".

SparkyFartDust · 26/12/2008 22:14

I liked French Lime until someone at work said they could smell 'Flash wipes' when I wore it the other day.

Fav is Lime, Basil & Manderin- beautiful.

honestfriend · 26/12/2008 22:15

Thanks!

I have used Chanel 19 for years and Clarins Eau Dyam. but fancy a change.

hoxtonchick · 26/12/2008 23:04

i wear chanel 19 too. have had j malone jasmine & honeysuckle previously. maybe a bit floral for you though?

ZacharyQuack · 26/12/2008 23:15

Jo Malone 154 is lovely, it's a bit woodier and heavier than some of her others, but still subtle.

SniffyHock · 26/12/2008 23:18

i love lime basil and mandarin also orange blossom. My other fragrances are Chanel 5, 19 and coco mademoiselle.

tattycoram · 27/12/2008 07:55

Honestfriend, those are my two favourite perfumes too and I like lime, basil and mandarin.

On a non Jo Malone note, have you ever tried Joseph perfume? It's a bit like no 19 but slightly different. Really lovely.

honestfriend · 27/12/2008 09:27

No- haven't tried Joseph- but will have a sniff!
Looks like it is going to be lime basil and mandarin, with Pom. Noir and possibly the jasmine or orange blossom as strong contenders too!

Thanks all!

honestfriend · 27/12/2008 09:47

JoolsToo · 27/12/2008 18:14

Mooseheart · 27/12/2008 18:19

I wear Pomegranate Noir and Blue Aquaba and Cacao. Prefer the latter.

soopermum1 · 30/12/2008 16:40

i like the jasmine one, but Dh said it makes me smell like a granny so am now too scard to wear it. may mix it with another flowery perfume to tone down the jasminy bit

Pinkjennybellrock · 30/12/2008 16:41

I have lime, basil and mandarin too. I'm wearing it now, but I'm not sure.
