Tell me about smart trousers that aren't plain black

I generally wear a skirt suit for work, but sometimes have to go to something that either involves being outdoors or walking longish distances.

For those events I wear trousers with boots. Always plain black trousers. I could do with a new pair and have been looking for something different to usual. Is it just me or are smart trousers in any other colour (and especially checks/stripes) just wrong?

I have 3 pairs of trousers for work: plain black, midbrown/taupe with slight herringbone pattern and charcoal grey with slight pinstripe pattern. Between those they go with practically any top.

Navy and get look like school uniform and black doesn't ??
