Make up brush ... best way to clean?

Foundation brush in particular! I use Estee Lauder Double Wear and although I clean my foundation brush regularly it never gets properly cleaned (I use a facial wash which removes "all types of makeup"). Anyone got any good tips/suggestions/product recommendations for cleaning it really well?

I just use either unscented bar soap and rinse well, or use a mild shampoo.

MAC do a brush cleaner, or at least they used to, but baby shampoo and warm water is just as good

In liquid washing detergent (Woolite for example) and hot water. Soak/rub and then rinse and repeat until the water is clean. Leave to dry on a towel in a warm place.

I asked someone at a make-up counter what to use and she said that although there are special make-up brush cleaners, baby shampoo is the best.

My foundation brush feels 'oily' - it's supposed to - and I wondered if I could wash it. Won't it wash the 'oil' out too?

Thanks. I have also used the baby shampoo and handsoap and also have stuck it in the dishwasher in attempts to clean it properly but it still hasn't come out as clean as I'd like! It's clean on the outside of the brush, it's the bits in the middle that the makeup is clinging too (ugh!) Thanks for the replies though.

I use baby shampoo. Mac does a make up brush cleaner too.
