Suits in the sales ? Where to look ?

KatieDD · 18/12/2008 10:17

My suits are all 8 years old at least and I used to buy from Aquascutan and Hobbs when I was 21 ie like an old lady.
So now I am an old lady of 33 where should I be buying decent skirt/trousers/jackets ?
It's for a client facing engineering role.
Thank you in advance.

It'll sound old lady, but honestly, NOBODY cuts better than Jaeger and they last forever. They've had a bit of a revamp and are quite sexy now.

MissisBoot · 18/12/2008 14:00

Austin Reed?

KatieDD · 18/12/2008 14:21

Brilliant Boot thank you, Jaegar I would imagine you can get some nice pieces but it's just too expensive for me at the moment

I am an engineer too.

Next, Mexx, boring but affordable. Got a fab 100% wool Italian suit for £50 from TK Maxx a couple of years ago. TKM is very random, worth keeping an eye out if you have the time.

Thank you BRS, I'm not an engineer, not that clever I'm afraid, I'm a recruiter/headhunter, so if you're looking for an new job in the new year

I think you should go to MaxMara. I have always loved their suits and they last for ages. if you can get them in the sale. They are not THAT expensive

Joseph not bad either.

By the way,and I know this is a useless comment and I can't afford them any more either, but the best suits in the WORLD come from Prada. If you ever see one on sale that suits you it is an investment that will repay and repay. I bought one TEN years ago, still looks modern, sharp and new and makes me feel like a goddess when I wear it. Cost per wear it is probably the cheapest suit I have ever bought and it will last for many years more.

TK MAxx if you can find a good suit of good quality would be excellent

I am always hearing good things about Bicester Village

Jigsaw does nice ones which wear well

BikeRunSki · 19/12/2008 20:12

Hi KatieDD

Thanks, but I am 3 months into maternity leave and have no intention of going anywhere near my suits until September!

Also, Austin Reed. DH and I have both had absolute bargains in their sales/outlet shops.

domesticslattern · 19/12/2008 20:57

Hobbs has some decent ones in the sale.

Unfortunately I can't agree that the Jigsaw ones wear well- mine have gone shiny. Though I do wear them into the ground...

Blondilocks · 19/12/2008 21:45

Ooh that's useful as I need some new suits.

I do like TM Lewin for shirts (& girly cufflinks which I didn't even knew existed until this summer & of course I HAD to have some!) Saw a nice suit in there too but not tried it on so no idea if it's any good or not.

christmasiana · 20/12/2008 17:40

i agree about jigsaw suits not wearing well

moondog · 20/12/2008 23:25

Phase 8
I got two fantastically well cut suits from there.
Am alse v pleasantly surprised at how nice Principles stuff is for not a lot of cash.
