Hugh Fearnley Whittingstall!!!!!

WTF am I going to do?

Yes I am a farmers wife but I do wear make up, moisturise and generally try with my clothes.

HOW can I be more polished?

Haircut last week, wear skirts and nice boots with clean tights etc but have an inherently scruffy look I suppose.

Scruffy,I know w hat you mean about recognisable clothes.
I loathe Next for that, and alot of Boden
Agree re Kew being subtle...sometimes a bit too much though!
White Stuff good for slightly 'quirky' things, and they do great tee shirt tops.
Having said that,I bought loads of long sleeved plain tops from New Look this year and have worn them loads, and they wash well too.
I layer them, then add a sleeveless knit over the top.
And long necklace of course

Nice!
I would like to do the 'sleeveless knit' but only seem to come across the BHS style un-groovy ones in beige that look very practical and warm for older ladeez IYKWIM.

The long necklace seems to be essential here.
Will look one out ASAP.

Think I have sorted out my problem and it is basically that I am quite tight so buy cheap stuff and then get some more whereas I should just have a few of the better pieces.

Marks have sleeveless knits, particularly in Autograph and Limited Collection.Monsoon do too, also New Look and Topshop if you are brave enough to go in,if not,buy online!
at your BHS version,I can picture the ones you mean!
I think a few pieces of more expensive stuff,of the Monsoon/Kew/Boden'Great Plains type, makes cheaper tops look better.

Ta Silent

Could you come shopping with me? Only kidding.

Really love this sort of detailed advice as you all seem quite assured about what to wear. I am afraid of being too mutton dressed as lamb by being trendy but can see the sort of things you lot are wearing is just really nice and classic looking which I aspire to.

Love Mumsnet
