Which tights would you wear with this?

this dress - Dull, sorry, but I have no idea. Purple? Grey? Wool? Cotton? Plain or patterned? Black looks weird I think, I have black shoes and a black bag and it's all a bit too coordinated. My goat is grey wool if that makes any difference.

My coat, obviously. I don't have a goat.

Dress is nice. I'd be tempted to go for opaque patterned ones, if I were wearing it. Just to funk it up a bit.

what sort of do is it for ?

It's just for general xmas socialising, a dinner out, Christmas day with my parents, any other occasion I can get away with it really, I love it. I was thinking grey sort of ribbed? I don't think my legs are good enough for sheer tights.

Ribbed might be a bit of a mistake I think, just because the dress is very silky and quite formal (but not overly so), whereas to me, grey ribbed tights are just a bit too everyday, IYSWIM ?
