help!!! i NEVER go out to pubs etc but am going for my works do on saturday.... i only have really casual bags...canvas, messenger style, big enough for a nappy/wipes etc... they suit my daytime scruffy arty look.

am wearing black tight top, denim mini, black tights, black biker boots, chunky pendant on a choker....

find me a cool, funky, trendy bag....PLEASE!

I've noticed that the really stylish wait for a bit before answering, so I'm just going to throw an opinion into the ring to get it going.

I'd start by looking at the M & S Limited Collection bags, esp. the black, shiny bags. They're maybe a bit big for a night out but you'll be able to use it again afterwards. Seems mad to buy a bag just for this one night, unless, of course, you see this as time to open the door on a whole new wardrobe dimension.

If that's not you, try the leather bags on the River Island website and topshop.

thanks so much for replying!! lol [needy emoticon]

tbh, i don't mind buying a new bag...i don't have a going out bag at all...all of my old ones are sort of teeny tiny dated little sparkley types.....so fourteen seasons ago!

what sort of shape should i go for....links would be great.

How about something vintage? Look on ebay-always good for a vintage bargain

higgle · 09/12/2008 15:43

nine west ones in Debenhams are nice - probably something off too.

TheDevilWearsPrimark · 09/12/2008 15:47

I'd go for a clutch bag

something like this

www.topshop.com/webapp/wcs/stores/servlet/ProductDisplay?beginIndex=0&viewAllFlag=&catalogId=19551&s toreId=12556&categoryId=128449&parentcategoryrn=130031&productId=972103&langId=-1

I have a pretty clutch bag with my purse/makeup etc inside my massive handbag with kid/work crap in it.

Mellyonion - I'm not enough of a bag-genius to advise you what shape to go for. It depends really on what you like and what sort of vibe you want to give off.
My advice would be to NOT spend too much money on this, your first venture into the world of casual drinks bags.
Use it as a bag frog-kissing experience, rather than expecting to find The One. Most women I know have, promiscuously, accumulated a large pile of casual drinks bags now and add to it at regular intervals.

I got a free black clutch bag with 3 items from the Lancome counter - handy if you're planning to buy some some gifts.Twas nice.

roundcornvirgin · 09/12/2008 16:15

sorry 2 items

frankbestfriend · 09/12/2008 16:17

I really like that.

Have to say, if I were going out to a pub I'd probably go with a really big, black, canvas bag I have with fake Louis Vuitton logo on it in skulls and crossbones.

I haven't looked myself yet, but have a look at Urban Outfitters, they often have quite interesting stuff.

Do you not like the M & S Ltd Collxn big, shiny, patent bags? Though, I must admit, those are more "shopper" style bags.

mellyonion · 09/12/2008 16:45

awwww pants.
thanks zen.....lovey bags, but all way out of my budget....saw another one i love, but its £185!

lol. i have about twenty quid i can spend...

i'll know it when i see it......just got to find it.....no luck on ebay...too many bags, and not really enough time to get it before sat...

Bags are outrageous aren't they?
I read a great article, by a man, saying that women's bags had clearly gone completely out of control price-wise. What is the world coming to when you can't find a decent bag in topshop for £20?

[shuffles off, muttering to self]

My2Monkeys · 09/12/2008 20:08

How about this one from Debenhams? Or others in a same style here?

mitfordsisters · 10/12/2008 13:06

The Sak - www.thesak.com/Eco_Harmony_Crossbody/pd/np/202/p/1037.html

Classic, hardwearing and chic - I have one that still looks new 7 years later. I think Fenwicks stocks them...
