I am very embarrassed about this.

I have 3 or 4 thick dark hairs on my chin. I tweeze them but they grow back really fast. One comes from a mole. Yuck.

I also have a 'tache. I shave it and use tweezers in between.

I cannot leave the hairs to grow long enough to use cream because then I will really have a proper moustache. And bleaching it won't work either.

Is there anything I can do to stop them growing? Or to make them go away and never come back.

laser removal
or grow long enough to wax top lip

ggirlsbells · 06/12/2008 20:11

You can get medication from your GP for excess hair growth. It is often prescribed to women with POlycystic Ovarian Syndrome.Do you have that by any chance.

Otherwise how about waxing or sugaring?

BeardedLadies · 06/12/2008 20:16

I don't know if I have PCOS - I asked my dr because I have v irregular periods but she said they won't test unless you are ttc.

I can't leave it to grown long enough to wax/ sugar because it'll look awful! If I could afford laser hair removal, I would do that.

Thanks for responding

I removed God knows how many black jairs from my chin this morning. Yuk!

I tweezer them regularly - if I had the money would go for laser removal.

I have polycystic ovarian syndrome though so it's to be expected - hate them though.

ggirlsbells · 06/12/2008 20:20

won't test unless ttc-that is awful!!!!
my dd has just had blood test and ultrasound as she has irregular periods and I have pcos (hereditary).
I would push for testing as it does need to be controlled even if you don't want to conceive.

llareggub · 06/12/2008 20:25

See a different doctor. It isn't true that they won't test unless you are TTC.

Left untreated and uncontrolled it's thought that PCOS can sometimes lead to diabetes. I've taken metformin on and off for years, long before I decided to have babies. PCOS isn't just about fertility. Lots of doctors are fairly dismissive of it, but I was lucky to find a doctor who recognised my symptoms and shipped me off to an excellent endocrinologist.

BibiJesus · 06/12/2008 20:25

I can easily pull 20+ every other day from my manly chin - tis awful and I even have nightmares about waking up with a full beard.

Dr looked at me and smiled and said there was nothing they could do short of laser removal, which I canot afford.

So I pluck and pluck and pluck.

pushchair · 06/12/2008 20:38

I pluck too and have had DP swear that if I ever go into a coma he will arrange hair removal for me. Otherwise I would look like the wolfman

bluebump · 06/12/2008 20:38

You could always try one of these I got one from Argos for about 35 pounds ages ago so this one seems quite expensive but it does reduce them quite a lot. I have never used mine enough to get rid of my hair totally but I know people that have.

(the Boots site seems slow tonight!)

BeardedLadies · 06/12/2008 20:40

I will press for testing next time I go, thanks.

The dr looked at me when I mentioned it and said, "Well, I don't see any excess hair, so you're ok" and I stopped myself from shouting, "That's because I plucked it all out "

Since it looks as though I will be doing this forever, maybe I should invest in a nice pair of tweezers

Thanks for the responses.

I have a beard. My doctor gave me vaniqua, it slows down the gorth enough for me to not have to spend 30 mins a day dealing with it.

UnfortunatelyMe · 06/12/2008 20:43

Oh well when i said to my doc, ive left you one so you can see, he said, i see youve left me quite a few....think yourself lucky

BeardedLadies · 06/12/2008 20:48

LOL, unfortunately. Sorry you have to deal with this too.

Bibi, Im just rereading this thread, there are things they can do(go on the pill, the cream i mentioned, other things too I suspect). Your doctor should be looking into WHY you have hairs on your chin, is it a hormone imbalance, PCOS?
Go back, to another doctor at the surgery.

AdventCandleQueen · 07/12/2008 23:30

Tell Doctor you are TTC?

UnfortunatelyMe · 07/12/2008 23:35

Godd idea advent

UnfortunatelyMe · 07/12/2008 23:35

Good sorry!

skrimbo · 07/12/2008 23:41

I tweeze and shave, I used to have to shave everyday, tweezing the big dark ones slows it down. I am on Dianette for acne and it seems to slow hairgrowth too.

Def don't just bleach as that would leave me with a big blond moustache, not much better.

blinks · 07/12/2008 23:50

bleach = hulk hogan
