am having my hair cut tomorrow, only the second time this year

am totally fed up with it. It's highlighted blonde, a couple of inches past shoulder, VERY thick and has a slight wave to it. I have some very long layers and have grown my fringe out to about jaw length.

Basically it has no style and I usually just tie it back.

I want a nice nice style, not too short, lots of layers so it falls nice and maybe a 'to the side' fringe??

Please help as I really have no clue!

Sounds a bit like my hair (only not blonde). Went to a new hairdresser last week and asked him to actually look at me properly and say what would would suit me. My usual hairdresser seems not to "see" me any more and just does what he usually does and it wasn't working any more.
So we are going for a choppy bob, which will take a few more months to grow into place.

Why not try a nice neat unlayered bob. It always looks classy and if you get fed up with it, you can just grow it out into a longer style. Yes to fringe too!

choppy bob sounds nice - Emma Bunton's looked nice on loose women today but I don't really want to go that short. My hairdresser is the type who wants to see a pic and I have searched but can't find anything!

Then Iwould suggest finding a hairdresser who doesn't just copy a photo but who actually looks at you. Easier said than done I know.
Maybe head honcho at another salon in town?
