I'm fed up being cold - has anybody got this jacket & what do you think of it? this page

Can anybody suggest a warm but short jacket - I'm mid 40's 5ft 2 & looking for something casual rather than smart.

I have this, I LOVE it, so warm and cosy.

They say if you like to layer order a size up, but I find their sizes generous anyway so I have a size down.

Annthecat · 01/12/2008 12:21

I think it could very easily look chavtastic I'm afraid.
And I personally think grown women should avoid hoods. Buy a hat.

I'm probablky the wrong person to give my opinion on this, but you did ask.

flowerybeanbag · 01/12/2008 12:31

Whether it looks chavtastic will depend whether you accessorize it with a Croydon facelift hairdo and jogging bottoms with slogans on your bum...

Personally I accessorize mine with jeans, long chunky boots and a dog so I reckon I avoid that landmine.

Know what you mean about hats Ann, but I don't like hat hair and when it's really cold, a hood will keep out some of the biting wind without hair problems.

Annthecat · 01/12/2008 12:34

Ah, if you have a dog that will help.

A chocolate labrador I presume though? and not a staffordshire bull terrier?

Yes and definitly avoid jogging bottoms with bum slogans, always good advise!!

flowerybeanbag · 01/12/2008 12:37

He's a Cavalier King Charles Spaniel. Does that pass?

Annthecat · 01/12/2008 12:38

Oh yes definitely!!

I want one of those, so they must be alright

flowerybeanbag · 01/12/2008 12:39

He's on my profile if you want to drool over him...

Annthecat · 01/12/2008 12:41

He is gorgeous.

We cannot get a dog until our cat dies. He is very old and a puppy would probably push him over the edge.

Cavalier Kings Charles' are on my list though.

flowerybeanbag · 01/12/2008 12:43

Would highly recommend.

(Sorry OP for doggy hi-jack!)

Annthecat · 01/12/2008 12:46

Just bfeore we get back to coats....

....are they good with children? my 2 are 8 and 5yrs and used to dogs, and also aren't they prone to helath problems? do they like long walks or just short exercise?

mellyonion · 01/12/2008 12:54

i have a north face puffa style jacket that i have had for over 12 years a few winters. it was expensive, but looks great with jeans..can fold down into a "stowawy pocket" and is like wearing a duvet!! it is light, but really toasty warm.

hth..

flowerybeanbag · 01/12/2008 12:54

Fabulous with children - were recommended by a vet friend as being a good option.

Ours has a lovely temperament and puts up heroically with DS chasing him and squealing with excitement and has also endured plenty of tail and ear pulling from my niece when she was younger and other children not used to dogs with no fuss at all.

In terms of walks, ours loves long walks but they don't need them in the same way that bigger livelier dogs do. So he tends to have a couple of long walks at the weekend and shorter ones during the week, and if rarely something happens and we can't take him out, it's not the end of the world.

I think they can be prone to some problems, like a lot of pedigree breeds, heart problems specifically, but just be very careful with choosing a reputable breeder and looking at the 'family tree' - ours was able to demonstrate no dodgy inbreeding for loads of generations which is obviously what you are looking for.

I have this

www.trespass.co.uk/PageProducer.aspx?Template=ProductDetail&Category=Women&Type=JACKET&Product=FAJKS KD20052

in Cocoa. I was looking at North Face ones but they're just too expensive. This one was about £55 and really warm. The hood is detachable, if you want to look less chavy, but I have been having mine on when it rains. 'tis waterproofish too, padded and lined with a soft fur. Very nice.

spades123 · 01/12/2008 13:48

Hmmh ... I think I'll just get a King Charles Spaniel
thanks for your honesty, Annthecat. I think I'll investigate the North Face options, although I have been scared off by the price too!

Get the coat and a King Charles Spaniel just to be safe

Thanks for the info flowerybeanbag

MrsBadger · 01/12/2008 14:40

NB it is not the hood that makes the first one look, um, common but the tight bomber-style waistband

any of the others are better
