I've never been to a posh xmas party before but the offer of free nosh and drinks in a posh hotel is too good to pass up so we've accepted the invitation.
Now i need something to wear.
I'm 31, size 14, 5'3", big bottom, medium boobs.
I'm more comfortable with my upper arms covered.
Will need to be from reasonably prices shops as i've just bought nice going out with friends clothes before i knew about this invitation.

help me please.
TIA

Just how posh are we talking?

Dragonbrandybutter · 27/11/2008 19:19

cocktail dress posh?
boys in tux's although DH has negiotated that that might not be totally necessary for him.

Why not black tie for him too? What will he wear? I think you need clarification!

Dragonbrandybutter · 27/11/2008 19:24

i was told by one of the bosses that he is wearing a tux and that ladies wear cocktail dresses.
the fact DH is telling me it's not so posh it's because he really doesn't want to wear one.

i have this dress in my wardrobe. will it do?

OP posts:
mrsmaidamess · 27/11/2008 19:33

Yes that is really nice

Dragonbrandybutter · 27/11/2008 19:42

that would save me a lot of money.
are you sure i shouldn't wear a long dress?
and how would you accessorize the dress i already have?

OP posts:
llareggub · 27/11/2008 19:47

That dress is great. You don't need a long dress if it isn't really black tie.

mrsmaidamess · 27/11/2008 19:48

I would buy a fab brooch, something dead sparkly and cocktaily . And a huge cocktail ring.

Are you sensing a cocktail theme here?

Dragonbrandybutter · 27/11/2008 19:51

ooh, loving the sparkly brooch idea.
something oversized.
maybe a bracelet made of cocktail sausages and a cocktail umbrella in my hair?

i'm about to get kicked off laptop by DH, i'll check on your ideas again later.

Dragonbrandybutter · 27/11/2008 19:53

any ideas where i could get a big sparkly brooch. i'll be back.

some here @ accessorize

KatieMorag · 27/11/2008 23:29

no not a long dress. unless you really want to

black dress is fine if you accesorise it up a bit

do you have black heels?

what is the dress code on the invitation?

Dragonbrandybutter · 28/11/2008 00:29

it was a telephone invitation

i presume an invitation will arrive by post soon though.

i have black heels but they are fairly daytimey, hush puppy courts. maybe something a bit more sparkly?

off to check out accessorize...

nice brooches on that link mrsmaidamess, especially like the one with the blue stones.
maybe blue and fake diamond accessories with black dress?
blue shoes?

OP posts:
mrsmaidamess · 28/11/2008 14:14

Ooh some blue satin peep toe ones with a jewelly bit on the front would be cool! hang on...Love love love coloued shoes..

mrsmaidamess · 28/11/2008 14:15

new look

mrsmaidamess · 28/11/2008 14:16

loving a hidden platform

mrsmaidamess · 28/11/2008 14:17

i'm orf to new look

KatieMorag · 28/11/2008 14:51

nope sorry hush puppy courts to officy

you need party shoes.

can you do bling?

Dragonbrandybutter · 28/11/2008 22:54

oh i'm loving the new look shoes.
they will probably cause my feet irreversible damage but i think it'll be worth it

so i've got a brooch and shoes then.
anything else?

OP posts:
mrsmaidamess · 29/11/2008 10:23

No, simplicity is best. Some knockout red lippy would be the finishing touch.

Dragonbrandybutter · 29/11/2008 21:20

got it
