Skincare. Do people use products all from the same range or mix and match? What do you use?

I'm using the No7 Protect and Perfect Serum, and I'm liking the results.

I also use Liz Earle Cleanse and Polish which I also love.

I use Clarins day and night creams but both are now coming to the end of the pot so I need to buy more. I was thinking about changing, and because I'm pleased with the serum and cleanser, considering whether to use the No7 creams or Liz Earle creams, or something else.

Do people find it's better to use products from the same range, or is that just a myth, and does anyone have any feedback on No7 or Liz Earle moisturisers?

dunno -I've always mixed and matched.. so I use origins day/night cream, clarins moisturising serum and cleanser, avena face wash etc

RubyT61 · 23/11/2008 21:51

I generally use clarins but did get the Boots P&P range. Loved the serum but the day and night cream seems really heavy and cloying and did nothing for me. I do mix product Best exfoliator ever - Kanebo Silk peeling powder, IMHO

RubyT61 · 23/11/2008 21:52

products,

flowerybeanbag · 23/11/2008 22:03

I mix and match really from Liz Earle, Clinique & Elemis on skincare products.

flowerybeanbag · 24/11/2008 08:45

thanks bluebump

Any more this morning?

I mix and match to get the products I find best.

I think it's a complete myth that you have to use products from the same range (or the whole range, even).

jeangenie · 24/11/2008 09:04

I'm with ruby - love the P&P serum but found the creams AWFUL

I like Lush ultralight moisturiser - I've tried lots of others but I always come back to this and my skin thanks me every time

I also love baby face which I use to cleanse in the evening with a muslin and aqua marina which I use on my face in the morning in the shower

I've been away from these lush bits and bobs for a while and my skin was really acting up so am back now and already noticing the difference.

Gotta love that baby face - £3.95 and it lasts for ages!

Mix and match. Am product whore.

Currently using: Clinique foaming cleanser, Origins exfoliant, dermalogica toner, Origins white tea serum, Elemis SOS cream, Clarins eye cream.

Have lined up to use (from reckless and shameful raids on Boots, John Lewis, etc.):

Origins Checks & Balances cleanser
Clarins Marula oil (sp?) cleanser
Clarins Orange one-step exfoliant cleanser
Clarins day cream
Origins Perfect World cream
Neal's Yard rose water toner
Elemis facial wash (can't remember name)

erm, and loads more, I fear. Oh God. Feel so guilty at all that spending. In my defence, I don't wear any make-up or foundation at all. Does that mitigate it?

I don't use products from same range - once I find something that I love using I tend to stick to it regardless of whether it "matches".

Used to use all clinique - spent a fortune and my skin really wasn't great but I guess I fell for the marketing that the more you spend the better the results and that all the products work in synergy together - both ideas are a load of rubbish.

Nowadays I use more natural products from Akamuti, Spiezia, Trevarno and Lilylolo and my skin has never been better - would recommend their products to everyone - hell of a lot cheaper than clinique and clarins etc with alot better results.

Blinglovin · 24/11/2008 13:44

Agree on the No 7 serum being good but te other P&P creams get a little heavy. Having said that, be warned - you're not supposed to use the serum all the time. I used it for quite a while and my skin deterioratd. I've stopped again completely now.

I use almost all clarins. Mostly just because I like the products. Although am interested in the Kanebo exfoliator recommendation here as I don't like clarins exfoliators as a general rule...

I do think there's benefits in using the same make day and night cream - supposedly they're made to be complementary. But I wouldn't get obsessive about it.

jamescagney · 24/11/2008 13:59

I use Ulay cleanser, I find it lovely and creamy, good on my combination skin, I use witch hazel/rose water as a toner and Nivea moisturiser. I have Dermalogica eye cream.

tbh its lovely to have all the matching stuff, Clarins, Clinique etc but I find my skin doesn't know the difference..

Mix and match away

flowerybeanbag · 24/11/2008 14:09

Ooh that's interesting about your experience with the serum blinglovin. It does say use daily morning and night and that's what I've been doing, for a week or two. Maybe I should do it 3 or 4 times a week instead.

Clean and clear medicated wipes
Boots No 7 eye make up remover
Estee Lauder Revelation moisturiser and at night their serum that Gok said was the best.

I bought the whole Cleanse and Polish range, cleanser, moisturiser, toner and face pack and ended up with a face full of very painful boils.

curlywurlycremeegg · 24/11/2008 14:20

I bought the YSL top secret thingimy bob as an impulse buy at duty free, I really love it, not totally sure what it's "true" application is, I use it as a very effective mousutiser after clinique face wash.

curlywurlycremeegg · 24/11/2008 14:22

this is it as I didn't make a good job of describing it

Jacksmama · 24/11/2008 14:30

Mix and match product whore here.

Boscia Balancing Cleanser (lovely texture, first time I used it I wanted to wash my face for ten minutes)
Kiehl's Calendula Toner
Juice Beauty Green Apple antioxidant serum
Boascia Oil-Free Hydration with SPF 15 in the a.m., Boscia Recharging Night Moisture p.m.
Kiehl's Dermatologist Solutions Line-Reducing Eye Serum, Cosmedicine Eye Specialist Eye Cream

I've found all this stuff recently, say, in the last month or so. Had very difficult skin after DS was born, now much better.

Have heard great things about Liz Earle Cleanse and Polish as well as Boots No 7 serum.

There was a great thread a few weeks ago in Style and Beauty, "What are your top 5 beauty products" - fab recommendations!!

hifi · 24/11/2008 15:18

i mix and match, usung nars face wash and moisturiser at the mo and its fab.

flowerybeanbag · 24/11/2008 19:19

thanks all, v interesting. There are so many out there, makes you wonder how anyone finds the right one for them.

Slightly scared by MadameCastafiore's tales of skin covered in boils

OP posts:
RipMacWinkle · 24/11/2008 19:22

I use all Dermalogica - but that's mostly down to laziness

I do change to a lighter moisturiser in the summer though - generally Clarins.

Next year, might treat myself to a Clarins facial and throw caution to the wind.

Maveta · 24/11/2008 19:25

Mix and match. I like Loreal Demaq face wash and toner and clarins day and night creams. The creams are sooo expensive but do last for ages. I recently tried cheaper creams e.g. oil of olay and noticed a huge difference in my skin.

There are so many out there and I do think it´s best to just stick to what works once you have found it.

lumpsdumps · 24/11/2008 19:51

I use a mix of products:

No7 Protect and Perfect Serum
BNatural cleansing cream
Both the day and night creams from Aldi

flowerybeanbag · 24/11/2008 20:16

See that 'lighter moisturiser in the summer' business, that wouldn't occur to me, although it sounds very sensible. I feel all at sea!

OP posts:
RipMacWinkle · 24/11/2008 20:41

I'm not sure there's any benefit flowery to the lighter moisturiser. The Dermalogica one just seems a bit too heavy for the summer months (plus I love the change for a wee bit - any excuse to buy something new )
