is brown ok for a funeral?

I'm going to a friend's funeral tomorrow - her dh wants it to be as much as possible a celebration of her life, although obviously it will be a deeply sad occasion as well. I was considering wearing a dark brown knitted dress, boots and dark brown coat rather than all black - would this be ok?

Yes, I think so. I wore brown to my grandmother's funeral (actually, come to think of it, I wore brown to both my grandmothers' funerals, but I was only 10 the first time) and no one blinked an eye.

thanks - I didn't want to worry that I might be offending her parents or something - I've not been to many funerals - been lucky up till now

My mum wore brown to my dad's funeral as black doesn't suit her. SOunds fine. Hope it goes ok.

It sounds fine...tbh I think a lot of people wear all kinds now to funerals.

My mum who, bless her, is in her 80s, wants everyone to wear bright clothes and celebrate her life- at hers- and I think I'll ask for the same for mine!
