I really want some skinnies to wear with boots but I still have a post baby belly.

What I need are high waisted ones that will cover my bumps

Budget about £25.

Can anyone help please?

Matalan? Next?

Don't buy high waisted ones - they look hideous with everything, are very unflattering, and make you feel like an old American ladyee (sorry Americans but you know what I mean). Instead buy normal skinnies, not too low rise, and a couple of long billowy tops to hide the bit in the middle.

ooh think there's a thread somewhere, will have a look

GiraffeAHolic · 10/11/2008 11:45

that's the problem every pair I find seem to be lowrise. I guess you have to be skinny to wear skinny.

Thanks SEA probably should've searched first

I have a wibbly tummy, am not skinny, and wear normal straight leg jeans (I have the boden ones - size 12 - and a pair from top shop - 32in waist) with a stiffish belt which does a lot to hold bits in, and wear a long loose top, or layers.

Flibbertyjibbet · 10/11/2008 11:49

High waisted trousers immediately remove muffin tops, flatten your tummy, are much more flattering to the bottom as they stay up on your waist and not slumped round your hips, they go IN at the waist where women are meant to go in.

For years I've been buying extra long (work) trousers and shortening the legs so that I get the extra length in the body (I'm 5'2"). As soon as I take them off and put some 'low rise' jeans on I look twice the size and twice as lumpy.

And, if you are going to wear billowy tops to cover the lumps and bumps produced by low rise jeans, you might as well wear them over some high waisted jeans and have a flatter shape underneath.

i can't find it

iirc they suggested freemans

i have topshop but they're flares

GiraffeAHolic · 10/11/2008 11:54

I think I must be odd anyway.

I tried a pair of skinnies on in Dorothy Perkins and really liked the fit on my legs.

They were a bit tight round my waist but not so much that I needed a bigger size and they didn't pull up very high.

I swapped them for a longer pair of the same size thinking that at least they'd pull up but I got them home and couldn't do them up

i know topshop have hi-rise skinnies, about £40 though i think
i much prefer low-rise jeans though

mabanana · 10/11/2008 12:06

I disagree though. I actually BOUGHT some high waisted skinny jeans and they look absolutely awful. So, so, frumpy and grim. IMO they make tummies look worse as the outline the whole bulge (yes, even iwth a bit of stretch) instead of making it appear smaller, which I think a mid-rise plus belt really does.

mabanana · 10/11/2008 12:06

Also, if you have OK legs but are carrying a bit of chub around your middle, high waists are blooming uncomfortable!
