I am a real plus size - size 18 - sometimes 20 in trousers.

Firstly ebay bargains

anna scholz size 24

anna scholz size 24 purple wrap dress

another size 24 wrap frilly dress from anna scholz

we all need a touch of gold imo

kiyonna pencil skirt 18-20 about £42 in the shops but £29 here

missphit dress with awful photo so will go cheap size 26

what's the quality/fit like at simply be? Have used catalogues ages ago but found the material was so thin you could spit peas through it, so stopped using them

lulumama · 08/11/2008 13:28

have ordered two dresses, one cardi and one pair of boots. all excellent quality IMO

lulumama · 08/11/2008 13:28

fit is on the generous side

Ronaldinhio · 08/11/2008 13:28

I think that the dress has some form of jet beading around the neckline so I'm not sure you would need a necklace

oversized clutch is the answer

synthetic stretchy kneeboots and thick opaques perhaps on the legs?

chocolateteapot · 08/11/2008 13:50

I've had a quick look through their boots, only one I've found that aren't leather so far are these ones, but I think they might be too tight for my chunky thighs and I've got a bad heel and don't think I could walk in them.

I'm a bit worried about this leg thing, the model in the photo looked like she has trousers on, I was thinking I could maybe do that rather than tights, would that look really rubbish ?

I might have to go back to the drawing board. For some reason I find clothes shopping really stressful and I'm sure it shouldn't be.

weebleswobble · 08/11/2008 14:48

I love this website for us larger ladies I buy quite a bit from there and the sizing is generally on the generous side.

twinsetandpearls · 08/11/2008 19:32

weebles they are the same clothes you will find on simply be.

OP posts:
twinsetandpearls · 08/11/2008 19:35

Or some of them are, I have the Anna Scolz ruched waist dress, bottom left and it is gorgeus

OP posts:
twinsetandpearls · 08/11/2008 19:42

The Anna Scholz. Caryn Franklin stuff and Joe Browns is very good quality. The general simply be stuff is a bit more hit and miss in my opinion.

OP posts:
twinsetandpearls · 08/11/2008 19:44

Teapot can you not do thick tights with that dress, you will have to let me know what it is like it is on my list.

I do the trousers, dress combo you just need to be careful that there is shape there.

OP posts:
chocolateteapot · 09/11/2008 09:11

I don't think I can do legs, I haven't worn a skirt since meeting DH 12 years ago, the poor man would pass out in shock if I started now !

Was thinking about going shopping today but the plasterer has turned up so I probably should stay here.

twinsetandpearls · 09/11/2008 12:57

I bet he would love to see your legs. I will be verty brave and put up a full length photo, dodgy facial expression though!

This is a fab thread twinset! Thanks so much.

I would love some nice dresses - am a 22/24. Tummy is the 24 bit .

Had no idea Next did plus size - loving that grey frilly blouse/cardi combo.

Just need to figure how to get stuff delivered either to here in Budapest, Dublin or the hotel I will be at for the Xmas meet-up.

Buda · 09/11/2008 13:40

Yay! Have ordered the top and a black lacey tunic dress to be sent to my Mums!

Can't do SimplyBe - my credit card is registered to our address here in Budapest and they won't accept it.

samsonara · 09/11/2008 14:10

Excellent stuff Twinsetandpearls, please do write a fashion blog you will inspire so many people. Your fringe frames your face beautifully, that's a good cut too as you can grow it a bit longer and it will still look great.

Buda · 09/11/2008 14:12

Just looked at your profile - you look great!

chocolateteapot · 09/11/2008 14:13

Fab photo Twinset, you look great ! You're going to be disappointed in me. I have bought something and it does actually look good on, my son has just whistled at me and my daughter said wow, but it looks pretty boring if I link to them.

The top

The Skirt which looks much much better on than in the photo, very flattering. I didn't mean it to be Evans but was short of time and it was closer than some of the other shops.

I also got a lovely necklace which they don't have online which DD is coveting.

The next thing is shoes. I do have a pair of highish black ones but can't help feeling that I could do with a pair that would liven it up a bit and possibly a bag (though again I have one

DH will have to make do with ankles, maybe I can work up further up my legs with a shorter skirt next time.

chocolateteapot · 09/11/2008 14:15

And meant to say, thank you so much for posting this, I have been dreading the party as I had nothing to wear and hadn't even got as far as sorting a babysitter as it was stressing me out a bit. Your links really inspired me to sort something out.

Am now on a firm diet having had to face the changing room mirrors however.

twinsetandpearls · 09/11/2008 14:35

Thanks chocolateteapot, mumsnet had been a great source of therapy for me lately, I can't believe I can post a picture of myself that I am not 100% happy with on an online forum.

OP posts:
twinsetandpearls · 09/11/2008 14:39

I think that would look nice teapot the black goth look is very nice. I bought a similar skirt like that from Evans and it was a great shape.

Your top reminds me a bit of this one from Next - I like it but am not sure if the neckline is too high

OP posts:
AuntieMaggie · 09/11/2008 14:50

Wow - what a great thread!

I love the clothes you have posted! I'm usualy size 18 (somethimes 20 on bottom) too but have put on weight so am a size 20 atm. I usually stick to black on the whole and mainly trousers but am trying to get more adventurous!

Just wish i had the money to buy it all!

twinsetandpearls · 09/11/2008 15:41

Shoes,

since putting on weight my feet have got wider so I have included shoes that hold my piggies.

Going out shoes
I have these in black and purple and have got my normal size
these are very high but a real attention grabber, my current faves. They have been worn in the bedroom too

work:
I have these from viva la diva , only £20 and because they are an EEE fit very comfy. The purple ones look great with pink tights
next sole reviver are a staple for work, I have to try next shoes on though, I find for evening shoes I sometimes need to go up a size if they are not from the wide fit range

Viva LA Diva do lots of wide fit shoes on that site , you can limit your search just to EEE fit.
Be careful though I bought these Caryn Franklin EEE fit an they were too small and IMO poor quality

viva la dive wide fit boots

I am saving for some duo boots it is always worth looking on ebay

Buckles and bows also great

sandals
fly shoes very comfortable and plenty of width, not cheap but if you have a job where you stand al day worth the money
these scholl ones have lasted me for years and very cushioned
