Please help me to get an outfit together, it is my first night out in.....[arggh] and I have forgotten how!

Ok, I have a pair of boots, they are tan suede and that is it! All my going out stuff got out grown years ago!

I am blonde, very fair skinned, size 14 with all of my weight on my hips, bum and thighs so I would like to find something that completley eliminates disguises that

It is supposed to be a casual night but I do want to look a bit sexy! (I am single so any opportunity is important )

Please, please help me come up with something to wear. I have spent most of this evening trawling sites and I have no idea what I am doing! (not having too much money doesn't help of course!)

Thank you to anyone who is prepared to give me a clue

This is a colour that'll get you noticed. You could wear it with dark skinny jeans tucked into your boots.

Or this? Lovely colour and the detailing on the neck is really pretty.

If your legs are good then what about this with your boots? It doesn't scream "look at me" but as it's short it should get you some attention.

If you're still struggling ask other friends what they'll be wearing. If you like it then you could choose something similar. Could you drag a friend round the shops over the weekend?

Thank you for your ideas Amandoh! I like the black dress very much! I am not sure about the blue, I would have to try it on as it may wash me out too much!

I would ask my friends but they are all male - and are the type who give their t-shirt a sniff test before they go out, not the kind to go shopping with really!

Do you think I could wear the dress with leggings or tights? Also is black ok with tan? I am so out of touch that I tend to give in and go for all black with a coloured detail or jewellery to be "safe" (which is silly really as black can be very harsh on me!)

Sorry - waffleing!

I am blonde with blue eyes and a similar shape to you although a different size. I ALWAYS wear colour next to my face ..black washes me out and blue really makes my eyes stand out so please re -think the blue. I have seen that top in DP's and it is very nice. I would say that would be a great choice for looking trendy and casual. I would also recommend some jeans that are in dp's ..£15 and would look great with that top...hang on

widgypog · 08/11/2008 09:11

very nice fit

widgypog · 08/11/2008 09:13

very nice fit

a little obvious but I like these with the top

rey again

NCbirdy · 08/11/2008 09:23

They do look nice widgy! I will have to goina nd try them on. I juat always worry that I will look wrong - to other people IYSWIM.

I was always a bit alternative (into rock music, goth(ish) clothes etc). So, I am finding it very difficult to make the transition into main stream!

do go and try them on...didn't realise you were a rock chick..In that case I can have a look..trust me if you went out in that outfit, you would look fashionable and fit in. please try it on I am sure you will look fab ..it would def suit me and that blue reflecting off blue eyes and blonde hair would be great!!!good luck

JackieNo · 08/11/2008 09:39

But don't feel you have to change your style completely to go 'mainstream', if that's not really you, iyswim. If you want black, how about something with some shine, like this or this (if you've got the shoulders and arms for it).

JackieNo · 08/11/2008 09:42

I saw this the other day (only on the website, though) and thought it was lovely. You'd have to try it on to see, but the draping at the bottom half should disguise the bits you're not so keen on.

JackieNo · 08/11/2008 09:45

Bit more casual, but maybe?

widgypog · 08/11/2008 09:53

you know what..jackie is right..but I know I look completely different with blue next to my face than black..With my colouring black TOTALLY washes me out..good luck

NCbirdy · 08/11/2008 12:23

Thank you so much! I have beem into DPs and tried on a few bits, the first blue top is really nice, it does lift my colouring like you said widgy!

Jackie, I tried the sequin top but it was a bit too flashy for me, I couldn't find the stuff on Principles, I guess because we only have a mini shop here.

I did see this in miss selfridge, and thought perhaps with black leggings, tan boots, a tan bag like this and a chuncky coloured necklace? (although I havn't found one yet of course!)

What do you think, yeah or no way?

(I also had a crazy idea about getting a bold coloured bra the same colour as the necklace - perhaps peacock blue - proobably too much yes?)

I like the Miss Selfridge dress. Jumper dresses are a great wardrobe staple for Autumn/Winter. Not sure it's right for a night out but then I suppose it depends where you're going.

I'd be a bit worried about the shape of it though. If you, as you say, carry your weight around your hips, bum and thighs then a jumper dress might not be the most flattering dress for you. I'd be a bit worried about the wide band at the bottom of that dress too. It'll pull in under your widest area making you look a bit round. You might be better sticking to tunic shapes. Did you try it on?

When you wandered round the shops did you look at the shop windows or displays instore? If you're at a loss as to what goes with what then they can offer a bit of inspiration. Zara windows are particularly good.

Amandoh · 08/11/2008 12:59

How do you feel about having your arms on show? This would look pretty with jeans. Great shape for covering hips and bum.

Another top. And another.

NCbirdy · 08/11/2008 13:37

ooh, wise words Amanda! You are right, it probably will pull in... grr!

I like the grey next top, I just find tops a bit too casual IYSWIM (even the embellished ones )

I didn't try on as I had managed to go out shopping without my wallet

I looked at the window displays but I find that they put me off as the models are all skinney and I can't imagine thiose things looking good on something my shape IYSWIM!

Hi, I am being kicked off the computer by DS but I thought I would give a little bump to see if anyone has any more ideas!
