Boden!

soyabean · 28/10/2008 22:23

Hi there I got a nice black cord one from H&M about £14, they also had red or grey. Straightish with one little pleat. Have worn with grey woolly tights and black boots. I am now after a brownish,, possibly patterned skirt, maybe a bit fuller tto wear with brown tights/boots.
I am 5 years older than you btw! What colour are you after? I am not wise though.
Normally a terminal lurker oin this thread but at last have a week off work and a new laptop all to myself i.e. can leave teenagers on the other pc and stare at this screen all by myself all night.

RottenOtter · 28/10/2008 22:26

i do not really want to do fat face as my town has one and its a bit naff to see it in the window!

boden - i SWORE i would not do boden again after every second womaan in the school playground had the same coat last year - including me!

I know what you mean: I really like the White stuff ones but there is a branch near me and the clothes are everywhere. Also a bit pricey

RottenOtter · 28/10/2008 22:33

saw a lovely Hobbs one in the window of a charity shop but resisted as it was size 10 and i was not sure...

above knee

not sure

Great Plains usaully have some nice skirts, also Kew. Noa Noa good for unusual ones.I got a black cord one in Marks ,it has a teal and purple pattern around the bottom. Was last year though,so no help, sorry!

soyabean · 28/10/2008 22:40

I had a weekend a few weeks ago where i went mad on ebay and ended up with 4 cord knee length skirts none of which fit or are the right colours...what a waste of time and money, wont be doing that again.

RottenOtter · 28/10/2008 22:44

was nearly on ebay then!

OP posts:
soyabean · 28/10/2008 22:45

well you may be better at it/more discerning than me!

hf128219 · 28/10/2008 22:45

Try dresses instead. One less bit of kit to put on!

RottenOtter · 28/10/2008 22:46

any hints where hf?

OP posts:
hf128219 · 28/10/2008 22:49

Try and keep it simple - so nonone knows where it is from. Block colours,no patterns. M&S, other high street stores.

RottenOtter · 28/10/2008 22:51

thanks hf what length/shape

OP posts:
hf128219 · 28/10/2008 22:52

What are your legs like???

p1umpudding · 29/10/2008 00:39

Boden is great, but many mums wear them.

You could try Princlpes, they have a couple of nice a-line skirts at the moment.

If your budget allows, Hobbs is also a good bet.

RottenOtter · 29/10/2008 17:09

not horrific hf!!

thickish calves but these concealed by boots

i am tall and about 12 ish (size that is!)

OP posts:
hf128219 · 29/10/2008 18:30

Go for something on the knee then - Whistles have got some nice dresses at the moment. Jigsaw too.

RottenOtter · 29/10/2008 20:47

thanks hf

so i check out NEXT which i never do and find what looks like a great everyday skirt ...here and guess what? sold out in every size!

OP posts:
bundle · 29/10/2008 21:24

lovely woollen (nicer than you'd think) gentle a-line skirt in benetton, in black, but may have other colours.

RottenOtter · 29/10/2008 21:27

ooh had not considered there thankyou

OP posts:
Pollyanna · 29/10/2008 21:27

there is a black cord skirt similar to that in Hobbs atm. I don't know whether it is fashionable though! (I always think Hobbs is middle-aged and couldn't bring myself to buy it - I am very close to your age btw!).

Otherwise I would also suggest White stuff (I have just bought a grey cord skirt from there).

Ewe · 29/10/2008 21:31

Pretty, smarter and bold!.

Think these would all be good looks
