Hunter Wellies - anyone had Royal?

Not sure this is exactly style and beauty, but I'm considering these wellies and as they are damn expensive I'm wondering can anyone give the stamp of approval? Apparently they will last for about ten years, are cosy to wear, are as good as walking boots etc.

This true?

I am thinking of brown ones, I'm not into the pinks and roses and what not. And I know it says two hundred odd quid here, the only reason I am linking to this page is it's the best pic, I can get em for 119 I think but it's still a lot!

Yes! I purchased a pair of Hunter wellies over twenty years ago. They are still going strong and have survived the extreme climates of three countries. They look as good as new - or they would if I washed them!

VintageGardenia · 28/10/2008 17:35

Wow!

I borrowed my SIL's hunters this year and OMG if I could afford them I would buy them. Comfy and toasty warm.

VintageGardenia · 28/10/2008 17:44

Two good references then. 20 years for a pair of boots is pretty damn good.

I've had mine for 20-25 years and they are still going strong!

I don't have the Royal ones, but between us, the DCs and I have six pairs of 'normal' Hunters in a range of colours. We love them (despite the fact that DD's pale pink ones got holes in the soles... ).

I wouldn't touch any other wellies!

twinsetandpearls · 30/10/2008 22:56

I was thinking about wellies this weekend as we were walking and we all got filthy in the mud. I need the grip of walking boots but the coverage of a welly. Are they really as good as walking boots.

horsemadgal · 30/10/2008 22:57

I used to have a pair of neoprene Hunter's. They were much cosier than the normal ones.
My horse stood on my foot one day and tore them though!

Well this is great. Following on from the two initial responses, so positive, I have in fact ordered a pair of Royals in brown. I wonder will I regret the brown? I don't think so. I am hoping they arrive today, so I can try them out at the weekend. PLUS we actually had snow the day before yesterday so I am so glad I am getting the fleecy-footed ones. The Royals are lined with neoprene and leather, and the calf is adjustable.

Mmmm excited now!

Just admiring them again. Sigh!

Oo let us know what they are like when they arrive.
I want a pair now

VintageGardenia · 03/11/2008 18:46

Well the boots arrived and I must say they are gorgeous. They are really flexible, unlike normal wellies I've had, so you can do ankle exercises wearing them if you like, in perfect comfort. The brown is a sludgy brown rather than the sunburnt conker of my imagination, but still nice. Also is the sizing generous? I ordered a five, am normally four and a half and thought well thick socks etc, but they are pretty spacious. Also plenty of space at calf (and adjustable thingy) and I'd sometimes have trouble squeezing into a "fashion boot". Am now going to cook supper in them .

Go get 'em, everyone!

I have hunter neoprene ones and they are a bit big so I got some hunter wellie liners they make them a nice snug fit.

VintageGardenia · 03/11/2008 19:14

I suppose that little bit of jam helps too.

of all those people whose Hunters lasted so long.Mine lasted less than a year & I was so disappointed that I'm considering buying another brand now instead. However, they were lovely and comfy-I work on a shoot,so walk miles over very rough ground and I do miss them.

I think my mistake was leaving them out in an open porch when it was frosty and wearing them whilst kneeling down gardening 4 days a week, the rubber cracked around the ankles and water leaked in,so I had to bin them. They were navy blue, but I lie the brown ones too.

Lapsedrunner · 11/11/2008 18:26

I have a pair of Le Chameau wellies,www.thewellyshop.com/-c-1_5.html?filter_id=8&sort=2a neoprene lined and with a Vibram sole (like a proper walking boot). Expensive but worth every penny.
