Foundation for v pale skin - any recommendations?

So I finally got around to sampling Chanel lumiere but was most disappointed to find no shade pale enough for me, and all too yellow-toned anyway.

Can any fellow ghostly pale pinkish types recommend a really good foundation for me? Satin-ish finish, long-lasting etc etc. Am prepared to pay chanel-type prices for something good.

Currently using lily lolo mineral to get right colour, but it's not doing me any favours, really. Too dry and dull looking.

Has anyone tried mixing different foundations i.e completely different brand? Am so of the reported effects of lumiere that I'm tempted to buy some and then mix it with something pale and pinky in the hope of getting the right shade but with the gorgeous finish.....

Dainty doll ?

I'm in Italy and get called mozzarella face so white am I so I may be able to help!

Tbh- I tried expensive stuff and cheap stuff ( last year I bought some Chanel, Dior, Lauder etc- but none of it was right.)

Recently I picked up a Revlon age defying (am also a bit ancient) make up for dry skin (they do both) It was at an outlet so I paid £4.99 (rrp is about £12 I think) and it is fab! Really smooth, lasts, and I didn't even have to buy the lightest colour like I normally do....

I'm evanglical about it! xx

Maybelline Dream matte mousse in Ivory. I have a ghost like complexion and this is fine on me.

SixSpotBonfire · 22/10/2008 13:21

I am incredibly pale and generally stick with tinted moisturiser rather than foundation. Laura Mercier is great, although pricey.

Anna8888 · 22/10/2008 13:24

All the Lancôme ones in their 01 shade are very good.

MarshaBrady · 22/10/2008 13:28

Definitely Lancôme.
Ivoire or Porcelaine .

The very pale ones are fab.

shangrila · 22/10/2008 13:39

Vote for Chantecaille - future skin. I'm hooked.

TheUnsinkableMB · 22/10/2008 13:40

I know how you feel Spongebob.

I've tried lots of different foundations and even the lightest shades are always too dark for me.

I currently use Estee Lauder Double Wear Light, its still a smidge too dark for me, but if I get it right and only apply a thin layer I can get away with it.
The main reason I stick with it is its staying power, essential for me as I have very oily skin.

I hate some peoples ideas that I should 'conform' and make myself less pale looking...why?...Take me as I am!

SpongebobControlpants · 22/10/2008 13:55

Ooh thanks for those, am jotting down for next shopping trip....

Unskinkable - the Chanel lady who did some testers on me was trying to convince me they weren't too dark, and she even suggested i should be using fake tan to change my neck/chest colour to amke it easier to match up! Er, no thanks!

And Mac has a fabulously extensive range. I'm very light skinned and in fact, actually went UP a shade a while ago. They do foundation powders too which are great if you don't want the faff of a foundation.

georgiemum · 22/10/2008 14:18

Try Boots tinted moisturiser. Nice and light abd comes in peely-wally colour! The Body Shop 'lightest' colour is really dark!

TheUnsinkableMB · 22/10/2008 14:44

Spongebob, I always find the minute I find a foundation shade that I love they stop making it 'cos its not very popular' ggrrr!

CoffeeCrazedMama · 22/10/2008 23:10

Only just seen this and have to throw in my tuppence worth as have always had the same problem as you spongebob. Isn't it awful to be to pale for the chanel, because it is gorgeous.

Your answer is Bobby Brown stick foundation. The palest(00 - alabaster) is truly goth pale, so I use the second palest (0 - porcelain) - I have never needed the second palest in any other brand. The luminous foundation in alabaster is gorgeous for a slightly thicker coverage (I use it for a night out).

I also use Prescriptives traceless in their fairest shade (all other Prescriptives too dark for me) - its one step up from a tinted moisturiser and lovely.

firsttimemama · 23/10/2008 00:01

Clinique Superfit make up - I use No 5 but the assistant should be able to get a match for you - it's £18 quid well spent.

OllieWollieWoo · 23/10/2008 07:33

Can pale skins use minerals foundation style make up? I always feel that foundation clogs up my v pale skin but a friend is raving about some ID minerals amke up she brought recently.

SpongebobControlpants · 23/10/2008 09:25

Thanks all - these are most helpful. If I can't find the right one our of this lot then I really am a lost cause!

Perhaps us deathly pales should petition chanel for a new shade so we can benefit from the miraculous pro lumiere.....

I 'm very pale and I've just changed from Mineral to the new Revlon. It have four shades in one bottle you turn the top and it gives you your shade. I use the lighest one in the Light to Medium bottle. It's a nice foundation as well.

honestfriend · 23/10/2008 09:44

I swear by Clinique- it's the only range that does one pale enough for me.

I use Repair Wear in Alabaster- it's for more "mature" skin, but they do have a good range- Superbalanced is good, and they have some other that are more like tinted moisturisers.

Another option is Prescriptives- if you go to a large store they will custom-blend your own for you.

Hi,

Sorry to hijack a thread (and one that has not been used for some time) but I was trying to get in touch with SpongeBobControlPants.

SpongeBob, you posted a message for me in mumsnet local ages ago and I tried to CAT message you but you have it set to not let anyone! Just wanted to get back in touch and find out how you are doing! I am indeed the same person you saw at an NCT group!

Hope you get this message, If you enable the 'contact a mumsnetter' bit I will send you a message with my email (that's if you want to get back in touch anyway!).
