I need some shoes/boots for winter but I am a fusspot. Don't know where to start looking...

MUST be comfy enough to walk miles in and wear all day.
Decent grips.
Not too restrictive around the ankles or I get claustrophobic.
Suitable for wide toes.
If they were ethically produced/organic/made of water-resistant hemp so much the better.
Oh, and my budget is not high.

Do these tick all boxes?

Timberland boots? I know they don't meet budget criteria, but I have lived in mine for 12 winters now (they improve with age) and I walk miles, so they've worked out about £6 a year so far.
