Please advise me on the subject of patterned/coloured tights

I have a plain black wrap dress. I know, but I like it, it fits well, is comfy and flattering. I usually wear it with heels or knee high boots. I was thinking I could liven it up a bit by wearing it with either patterned or coloured tights. Am I horribly out of date or might that work? If so what pattern/colour? Not sure I'm brave enough for fishnets and have doubts about the wisdom of purple legs (spend most of winter trying to avoid purple legs )

FWIW, I 'm 38, 5'7" and dress is size 12

mrsmaidamess · 21/10/2008 20:39

Oh and I have some lovely grey pinstripe ones from Primark, look lovely with black

samsonara · 21/10/2008 20:41

Or you could stand out from the crowd and be cool wearing something like
these

SenoraPostrophe · 21/10/2008 20:43

do you like them? then wear them.

scaryfucker · 21/10/2008 20:43

M and S also do grey pinstripe, sounds good maid.

If you don't want to be too adventurous, try a herringbone pattern or chevrons in black, nearly black or grey.

mrsmaidamess · 21/10/2008 20:44

I culdn't look at your tights link! It said it was a sex attire site.

scaryfucker · 21/10/2008 20:44

My only advice on coloured or patterned tights is - buy lots.

Ewe · 21/10/2008 21:24

Saw a very curvy girl on the tube today in yellow tights, her legs looked huge and jaundiced.

Personally think they are a bit try hard but if you like the, then go for it!

scaryfucker · 21/10/2008 21:33

nope, anything but yellow

MadBadandWieldingAnAxe · 21/10/2008 21:38

Yellow is never going to be good. i was thinking grey, purple, teal, deep red etc. But not beige either.

mazzystartled · 21/10/2008 21:41

I'd avoid red personally; they tend to make legs look a bit meat-like if that makes sense. Purple are good; aubergine lovely; teal great; pinstripe M&S ones lovely; Monsoon do some fab crochet type ones. And yellow - never, never - unless you want to look like a strange breed of canary.

scaryfucker · 22/10/2008 19:25

asda have teal tights for v little dinero
