I don't wear flat long boots, is that where I'm going wrong? also what tops to dress them down? and what do I wear on ym legs, if anything?

Please help.. with your help a while back I found a couple of lovely dresses that I felt really comfotabel wearing but I've feel off the wagon and back into my jeans

[squints at jewels]

well, when you go into Zara do the local rich sixth form girls with the flicky hair whisper and snigger, and are they in fact wearing the same outfits as you just with more eyeliner and a keffiyeh?

Or do they envy you your grown-up poise and paypacket?

If the former, my mutton alarm is beeping and I suggest keeping the dress to wear as a tunic over leggings or skinny jeans

If the latter, carry on as you were

Mmm an excellent distiction there MrsB, well, I think is more the latter, but perhaps this is good use of expensive pendant and cleavage-covering scarf. Mmmm, I think worth trying the legging version anyway as this sounds really rather nice, and will make sure if I wear this dress with tights and heels, to ensure all other items are not so high st and makeup is understated.
(You always give very good opinions MrsB - something not always delivered by mums and friends)

I'm 30 too.. am I really approaching muttonhood?

You can't be approaching muttonhood at 30....

that means I'm already there, and I'm only 32!

But am glad you started this thread, beacuse I fancy wearing the short skirt/thick tights look, and never know what foorwear to go for during the day.

Although on Saturday I night I wore a multi coloured tunic style dress, with opaque tights, and black patent mary janes. I asked dh opinion (he is always honest) and he was actually chuffed that I was showing off my best assets and did not look too old.

Jewelsandgems · 20/10/2008 22:01

No mascara and runny not that 30 or 31 - or infact 35+ is muttonhood at all - more the particular outfit I was wearing.

And good for you for wearing the short skirt and tights look, I too did get admiring glances when wondered downstairs in short dress (thankfully, I am very happy with my legs) which is always nice!

Jewelsandgems · 21/10/2008 11:35

Oh my I saw a women this morning the wrong side of 30 with a short skirt on, and - horror or horrors - fishnet tights. [perhaps she was on the game? But this was Tescos!]

runnyhabbit · 21/10/2008 16:13

omg - fishnet tights

have to confess to having fishnet popsocks, which actually quite good with my black trousers and maryjanes. even though I do say so myself

Bramshott · 21/10/2008 16:17

Knee high boots - they have revolutionised my life!

scaryfucker · 21/10/2008 17:57

my fave outfit at the moment is a brown mid-thigh sweater dress (short sleeved, Mango), brown/cream striped long cardi (All Saints sale), plum thick tights (BHS), woolly grey knee length socks (Asda mens, yes really), cream/brown/silver scarf and these boots

sounds vile, but works. But then I am a fan of muddy/murky colours, even in the summer. I think "bright" clothes are guaranteed to make you look muttony. I am in my 40's btw.

I also wear those boots with a Fat Face grey cotton A-line skirt left over from the summer, a thin plum jumper (tucked in), a fitted brown cord blazer (years old) and plum tights/grey socks combo

looooovely and cosy

runnyhabbit · 22/10/2008 11:11

I would love to wear those boots with skirts, but I would look like a golf club (I'm 5ft 8, with size 8 feet!)

scattyspice · 22/10/2008 12:48

Lovely outfit scary. Is that a work look or home look?

scaryfucker · 22/10/2008 14:38

home/ferrying kids around/shopping, scatty

I wear a uniform for work

scattyspice · 23/10/2008 16:15
