Almost 40... can I wear skirts above the knee?

I'm 39, a size 10, 5' 8" and reckon my legs aren't bad at all... I'd love to wear an above-the-knee winter skirt, Boden-esque perhaps, with nice thick tights and boots... do you think I could get away with it or are there some kind of style "rules" that say it's best avoided "at my age"? (groan) Don't want to look like mutton.... Thanks!

Mid fourties and I occasionally wear short skirts. Again, mainly in winter, with woolly tights and flat boots. I do heels but only with longer skirts or trousers... go for it!
