Hello

I know it is probably so over, but I still wear long smocks/dresses with jeans and trousers. in summer am wearing birkenstock sandals (fine even for smarter wear/parties) or low converse trainers (for everyday wear..)

what sort of shoe works in winter

am not keen on high heels

any thoughts?

Boots?

Ah ha, yes birkes look good with this in the summer

I think a wedge is best

or

leather trainers [a la kurt geiger metallic ones]

yes, was thinking of leather trainers - camper do nice ones

had also been thinking about desert boots - a top look, like leather trainers, but less good with a smarter dress/evening

wedges may be the answer - but where do I get nice comfy ones?

During the day you could def get away with desert boots or trainers. Evening is going to be trickier. Have you tried with knee high boots if wearing skinny/straight jeans? would definitely up the "chic" factor for evening and you could wear flat boots or low-ish heel.
