Ladies with LONG hair, how do you usually wear it?

Am a bit stumped as if I wear it down, it looks kind of girly and also a mess. (very scruffy, wavy/straightish hair that will not do as it is told)

plaits - one at each side and I feel like a schoolgirl
One at the back looks kind of preppy and Anne of Green Gables (on me)

Pony tail is ok but not very grown up

So I resort to a kind of 'up do'

Is this acceptable? I'm not even sure I should be having long hair after the age of 35!

Talk to me about this please.

ALWAYS down, hate my hair up!

I am young though but tbh I don't think to myself "ohhh you should cut yer hair" when I see 40+ women with long hair.

I normally wear mine down, but now it's getting to winter I've started wearing it in a loose knot more often as otherwise it gets wet frizzy and wind ravaged and I look like the bride of frankenstein.

Bramshott · 15/10/2008 17:58

I always wear mine up because it drives me mad when it's down and gets in the way of everything. Ponytail usually - single plait quite a lot these days but I'm not sure about it - twisted up with a clip if I'm going to a meeting. I wash it every day in the shower, but leave it to dry naturally (it's straight) and yes, that does mean it freezes in the winter but it doesn't hurt it!

My granny has long hair and she's in her mid-80s. It looks fabulous (much more stylish than mine) although she usually wears it up.

I have long hair, always have, varied over the years but seem to cme back to the same old do! i am 34 now and sometimes I do think maybe I should have a more grown up hair do, but most days its up, out of the way, even if its down at the start of the day it usually gets tied up!

But I will say that sometimes I think it kind it undermines me in my working life, Im in the business world and sometimes I feel people dont think its very coporate looking, I am thinking of changing, but to what I dont know!

I am 41 and have long hair and say yarboosucks to anyone who thinks I am too old for long hair, you're just jealous.

I mostly have it in a ponytail, only wash it once a week (frizz and superdryness if more often); occasionally branch out and have a plait but only halfway down so it's less of the AoGG look. Another option is to ponytail it, but then on the last pull-through I leave it halfway as a loop and tuck the stray ends in, so it looks tidier.

I would have it loose more often but totally impractical with a 10mo who thinks it's another toy.

I don't think it's a matter of age tbh, more having a decent cut & knowing what suits your face. I held out for years with long hair as I thought short was so aging only to discover shorter didn't have to mean cropped or Maggie Thatcher-like.

Am 36 with below bra strap length hair which starts off at jaw length at the front.

Mostly I wear it twisted up in an ibis clip as that requires no drying to look nice, but today have the front bit tied back and the rest down. At weekends I usually have a pony or half up half down.

Shorter hair is a PITA for me as I have to wash and dry it properly every day else it goes wild - I couldn't cope with it preDS so have no chance now.

nearly 36, long hair, will NEVER cut it!!!
wear it loose, in a messy bun, in a pony. Long fringe so can wear swept to side or down, to vary the look a bit

WWTWTW - I only wash about once a week too, works much better for my hair, which is lucky because quite frankly, who has the time???!!!
