The bride has asked me to choose a style and she's going to take a chance and order me one. I am quite pear shaped - size 14 on top (E cup) and usually a 16 on the bottom.

The colour of the dress will be 'sage' and I will be wearing some sort of jacket/wrap with it. I would really appreciate any opinions on the dresses themselves and whether you think they will flatter my big hipped figure.

Sorry about the large number of dresses but I really can't decide.

Could really do with getting the style right as it's been ordered overseas. PLus the other childless smug cows bridesmaids are a slender size 8! .

s'ok - I am a diff size to OP but I don't think a 14 top is that big is it? No reason to be spillign over.

JoolsToo · 13/10/2008 22:49

I like the first one and the last one, both will 'hide' your hips - I think on second thoughts the last one is the best

If you've got nice arms/shoulders then yes you can wear strapless, especially if norks are one of your nicest assets. But a hint of cleavage, like with 4, can be sexier than full on norkage.

You'll be doubting my critical eye now as have revised my opinion of no 5, now that I've enlarged the picture and think skirt looks more structured ...but still not sure as it might look too bridal next to the bride!

Gobbledigook · 13/10/2008 22:53

The thing is you need to try one and not go entirely off photos. My dress looks quite 'sticky outy' on the photo and it's not like that at all. It just falls down really - she must have a net thingy under it in the photo.

Ronaldinhio · 13/10/2008 22:56

i'm not sure given your stats that you sound pear shaped...sounds like big norks balanced out by a decent hip/arse set
never strapless
the deep v is the only workable option but polyester taffeta????

LaDiDaDi · 13/10/2008 23:16

It's the E cup that I was thinking of rather than the dress size. Agree a 14 top isn't that big but compared to my a-B cups E cup soounds massive, having said that my E cup friend had a strapless wedding dress and it looked lovely BUT the dress had a very fitted bodice right to the waist so offered support in itself iyswim.

milkysallgone · 14/10/2008 08:37

Goobledigook yours is lovely .

Heated I did think 5 looked quite flattering but you're right - I think my worry is that it's a bit too fussy/bridal.

I've just clicked about the strapless thing. My wedding dress corset top was well fitted and ruched hence there didn't seem to be a problem with spilling over. I was a bridesmaid on another occasion and wore a strapless bustier - it looked awful, and yes , there was much spilling over when I sat down . I do have a lovely chest and arms though .

Ronaldhinio - I suppose I'm not that pear shaped, I think it's just that I have quite a decent waist compared to the great width of my thighs!

Looks like 4 is the clear winner then. I will try some on though.

You are an E cup but is that so big? I'm DD and I don't think I've got big boobs at all

milkysallgone · 14/10/2008 09:36

No I don't feel as if mine are that big either, I suppose it's all relative - big boobs are in the eye of the beholder!

Definitely number 4 out of all of those.

Lovingthepink · 14/10/2008 16:53

Without doubt the v-neck one will be the best IMO Strapless is really hard to pull of well. The 4th one ticks all the boxes for me. Good Luck!!

morethanyoubargainfor · 14/10/2008 16:59

I would say 4. I also like no 2 but speaking from expierence (I am size 16 with GG boobs) i know it just wouldn't work on my figure.

cremolafoam · 14/10/2008 17:00

4 the best

MrsMattie · 14/10/2008 17:01

Number 4 is the ost forgiving. Some of the others look like they will be brutally unforgiving.

hatwoman · 14/10/2008 17:07

4 and 6, possibly 3 (whihc isn;t empire line despite its description)

hatwoman · 14/10/2008 17:18

one thing to think about for something flattering is not just the cut - but the material. taffeta (which most of those seem to be) doesn;t move and as such is unforgiving. I'd go for a softer fabric that gently swishes, skims, drapes and falls. 6 looks like it might be like that - from the picture, but is then described as taffeta so hard to say.
