I have a new Great Plains catalogue brought to me by Mr Postman. Do you have one? Can we look at it together?

I've got a few bits from there (not this season though, like everything but don't really love anything) and haven't had quality problems. Do like the jumper dress, and there's a cardy I like but it's a little pricey for what it is. They are a bit acrylic heavy this season too, have seen some tops in our local stockist but they're £50 and pure acrylic - no thanks.

They have great sales though, worth waiting for and most stuff is usually reduced.

kt14 · 08/10/2008 18:39

Just had another look through it, why are all the colours called something ridiculous and non colour-related like arabesque and diva, when there is no picture to show what colour diva is supposed to be?? Irritated. Found a nice blouse but not sure whether to order ashrose (wtf) or oyster.

fullmoonfiend · 08/10/2008 18:41

I thought that - wtf colour is arabesque?

Some of the dresses look like maternity wear.

kt14 · 08/10/2008 18:45

Well I guessed a pale pink, following the logic of arabesque being to do with ballet, and pale pink being a ballet colour. But no, it's a charcoal colour. Quite like this arabesque cardi though..

This was the only thing I much fancied but it was horrid and I sent it back.

There was tons of lovely stuff for the summer, but god they're all low cut - I got a lovely linen dress in the sale but look a total strumpet in it.

SheikYerbouti · 08/10/2008 18:47

GP stuff oddly cut.

I have the most beautiful green dress from there that fits like a dream

However, I bought dress from there in the summer that gapes round my boobs and tight round waist

hoxtonchick · 08/10/2008 19:08

i have got this and it's super flattering (i have big boobs & a big tummy - it kind of skims my tummy). in fact, i may wear it tomorrow....

kt14 · 08/10/2008 19:13

ooh yes, I always forget about Clarks village, it wasn't very good last time I went and nowadays it has much better shops. Must go soon.

There's a place called Griggs Country stores off the A390 which sells cheap Joules and Great Plains stuff. Lots of bits for kids as well, might be worth a look if you're passing.

Kt14,you've got me all aquiver - where's it near???

Just bought some beautiful GP trousers, £43, lovely quality but too scared to wear them cos then they won't be new any more!

MorticiaAnnSpookington · 08/10/2008 19:38

I've got this in a dark blue - is v nice
everyday cardi

kt14 · 08/10/2008 19:56

It's on the A390 east of Truro, a couple of miles out of St Austell and signed from the main road - don't get overexcited though, it's a real farmers kind of place, and you have to go past the animal feed and tractor parts to get to the nice clothes bit at the back. All VAT free prices for some reason, can get some great bargains depending what their stock is like..

SilentTerror · 08/10/2008 21:10

Not overly impressed with their catalogue this Autumn.
Summer range ususally better I think.

singingtree · 09/10/2008 07:21

I like Great Plains - I've got the sonata cardigan someone linked to earlier in brown (tho I don't wear it all tied up like that), and a top made of the same material as this dress this dress that doesn't seem to be on the website. It's very pretty but it seems to be going a little bit bobbly already. I've never had any problems with quality before though.

I've also just got this dress but am wondering about sending it back. The colours are lovely and it is lined and nice and heavy but it is a tiny bit short.

I normally wait until their sale, but I badly needed some clothes for work and they're pretty much all I've bought this autumn.

kt14 · 10/10/2008 11:01

right, in the interest of MN research, dragged ds2 down to the GP shop today for a reccy (sp). Arabesque is actually a purpley brownish colour in real life, really nice, so I got a cotton scoop neck top in that and also in caviar (navy blue fgs) for £10.

All the acrylic-wool mix things were imo horrid, thin, scratchy and the sort of quality you'd expect to get free with a magazine.

Lots of other bits in store which weren't in the catalogue but all a bit acrylic heavy for my liking.. colours nice though, catalogue doesn't do them justice.

BodenGroupie · 11/10/2008 19:26

Thanks Kt14, I'm even more excited now I know there'll be farmers too!

kt14 · 11/10/2008 19:31

Always plenty of farmers there, average age about 60 though!!

BodenGroupie · 12/10/2008 15:45

Four years older than my husband!!!! Was hoping for a slightly younger one next time around
