Skirts and boots - please advise me

I am in a bit of a rut in that I rarely wear skirts. I think my current style suits me (mainly boot cut jeans/trousers with quite boring ankle type boots), but I think it would be good to have another "look" as well.

I am 5'2" and size 10 but quite a small waist (probably a size 8 waist if you take my bottom/hips out of the equation)

I think that possibly an skirt around the knee might be possible, possibly an a-line type style. Anything too wide seems to make my bum look too wide and out of proportion.

I have never bought boots other than boring ones to go under jeans/trousers.

I would be happy to spend up to £60 or even a bit more on the right boots.

Would really love advice from some of you who know about this stuff.

Any ideas please?

I wear skirts a lot in the summer, but come the winter I never know what footwear to wear with any skirt and end up in trousers all the time.

Would especially like a pair of "everyday" boots that would go with skirts, rather than the one pair of high-heeled ones that I wear now.

What about a pair of 80s style slouchy midcalf boots - you can wear them with loads of skirt styles, and also over your jeans. Maybe something a bit like this. Also, if you get a ruched, slouchy style you can get quite flat ones and still look gorgeously feminine.

Or even whispers, cowboy boots. I love my cowies - as long as you don't wear them with a long full skirt or you'll look like an extra from High Noon.

Basically, I think if your boots are loose fitting at the top (cuff?), then they look good with skirts of most lengths and styles.

Also if you wear boots and skirts,you can get into jazzy tights - lacy ones are 'on-trend' as they say.

Yes I am keen to get tights too, am just sick of the "jeans all year round" look with the odd Summer skirt and smartish trousers for work.

potoftea that is how I feel as well, I have boots for trousers/jeans, and one pair of "work" shoes that do go okish with skirts, but I love that whole casual "ish" skirt with great tights and suitable boots. I have never bought nice boots so am a bit lost.

I have a similar pair from last year, I put them on in October and didn't take them off until April

I'm a similar shape to you and I wear a lot of A line and tulip shape skirts in winter with opaque tights and these boots. Wear with a fitted top or tee. I have been building up a wardrobe of slim fitting cashmere cardigans ( get them really cheap on ebay) and have a couple of velvet blazers, nipped in at the waist. A really nice belt is a good investment if you have a small waist, you might as well emphasise it!

Of course there are days when I end up in jeans, but I always feel much better on me skirt days

I'm the same, but sadly a 14 not a 10. I think if you're going to wear boots with a skirt you have to be tall, or if you're average height or petite, wear the skirt at on the knee or just above the knee length.

A friend of mine sometimes wears boots with an over the knee skirt and I think it looks like a dress and wellies!

There's a fab above the knee dark denim skirt in Fat Face just now, you could wear that with black or brown opaques and black or brown knee boots. Would look great.

Totally get you on the bootcuts/ ankle boots thing. I live in that too and it gets so dull doesn't it.

Morris thanks for the advice. Yes that is what I was thinking - skirt on the knee or slightly above with a glimpse of tights in the gap between skirt and boot.

I am going shopping without little ones next week to our nearest decent shopping centre. On the search for another skirt (I have one lovely one); pair of boots and a couple of fitted cardies/tops.

I can't wait.
