What shoes go with combat type trousers?

I've got some maternity trousers which are kind of beige/kahki-ish combat style and have been wearing them with flip flops in the summer. But what shoes can I wear in the winter? I have some brown trainers and brown flat boots and both don't look right. Please don't say heels as I can't walk in them at the best of times let alone when six months pregnant!

trainers, but canvas ones, like converse?

Ah, maybe that's why my trainers don't look right- they are leather (I think) and velcro rather than laces.
