Socking shoe shop. Am so disappointed.

I'm getting married on Monday but not having a wedding. Just me and dp and 2 witnesses (actually only 1 witness so far - must organise a second).

Everyone has been giving me a hard time, insisting I "wear something nice" so eventually, against my better judgement I went shopping and bought this skirt and this top to wear (also this jacket in case it was cold, but I don't think it matches).

I found the whole expedition utterly depressing - the idea of "wearing something naice" to go and stand in an empty registry office was just gloomy. Plus, that is truly more than the total I have spent on clothes in the last 2 years and it's not even on stuff I adore and will wear loads.

Dp said why didn't I take the lot back and use the money instead to buy these MBT Mary-Janes which I have coveted for ages but we can't possibly afford.

I was so happy. Took the Monsoon lot back and went to our nearest MBT stockist to order the shoes, intending to wear them for my wedding on Monday. I know, I know, but it works for me.

Ordered them last Saturday. Paid for them. Was promised that they'd be here by tomorrow. Phoned them to check on Monday that the order had gone through. Phoned them again on Tuesday and was told the order had gone through and been accepted which means they are in stock.

Got a phone call late this afternoon - they're out of stock. I'm so disappointed. I'm cross with the shoe shop too - they can't help them being out of stock, but they have had my money for a week now and they could have let me know a bit sooner. Buggers.

Will have to try and go shopping on Saturday (with 2 children in tow). Too late to order anything now. Don't really know what to look for. I know I claim not to be bothered about what I wear, but I was so excited about the idea of having a special, extravagant pair of shoes to wear on my wedding day. Now I'm back to wearing old trainers, rubber flipflops or a pair of weird brown shoes that I think might be slippers.

Oh BS.

Jewelsandgems · 25/09/2008 21:06

Well BS you made the right decision about taking the clothes back and no, the jacket did not match.

Absolute bugger re the shoes. But, you have your wedding to look forward to, and the rest of your life with your new husband. Actually, after the ceremony and when it all calms down again, you have your dream shoes to look forward to aswell.

southeastastra · 25/09/2008 21:08

can you not get them instore anywhere tomorrow?

congratulations for monday though!

BroccoliSpears · 25/09/2008 21:11

Apparently they're discontinued. Oh well, they're only shoes I suppose.

Lol @ "no, the jacket didn't match". Didn't think so. The girl in Monsoon was horrified when I said I'd get the jacket too, and dp said it looked like something his great aunt Morag would wear .

I'm reeeeeeally bad at clothes!

In fact, I'm SO bad at clothes I think it is a contributing factor to not inviting anyone to our wedding .

BS - I can't get your link to work but are these the shoes. Why not phone up these people and see if they can do an overnight shipping or something?

LetThemEatCake · 25/09/2008 21:17

what sort of thing woudl you like to wear on Monday Broc?

can we help?

sodding shame about shoes though, I HATE being disappointed

BroccoliSpears · 25/09/2008 21:26

Those are the ones Squeaver, but in a pale off-white colour called 'Dawn' in the brochure - they're on this site. They apparently have navy, black and dark brown in the shop. Will have to go to the shop tomorrow to get the money put back on my card. If the children go to sleep at the same time tomorrow I'll use the time to phone around and see if anyone can ship them to me. Good thinking.

Not really sure what I want to wear LTEC. Will mooch to the shops on Saturday if I can. Maybe cords and a tea dress? And (if not my MBTs) some chunky shoes, but nothing too wintry as we're moving to the desert in a few weeks and I should get something I can wear again.

Broccoli, I'm so excited about someone getting married in MBTs! Congratulations anyway. Most websites won't sell MBTs though but try Millets, they usually will if you swear blind that you already have a pair and know what size you are. Look at this page

These people have that style, and offer free delivery. Will mail them to you, providing you know your size.

Doesn't say what sizes they have in stock, so you'll have to call them in the morning

missblythe · 25/09/2008 22:10

sorry, link here

dexter73 · 25/09/2008 22:25

They had that colour in John Lewis in Reading so it might be worth ringing them.
